For 2nd Year Running, EU GHG Emissions Rise - ES&T
For the second year in a row, the EU’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have crept up, undermining its leading position in the fight against global warming. The annual report on such releases, published by the EU European Environment Agency in June, showed an increase of 0.4% in 2004 after a rise of 1.5% the previous year.

EU members Spain and Italy had the largest increases in discharging GHGs. Germany, Denmark, and Finland, on the other hand, reduced their emissions. Compared with levels in 1990, set as the Kyoto Protocol base year, the EU has reduced its GHG emissions by only 0.9%.
