Action needed by November 15, 2006A Canadian mining company, Atlanta Gold, plans to build an open pit cyanide heap leach gold mine sixty miles northeast of Boise. The mine would be in the headwaters of the Boise River.
The proposed mine threatens water, fish, wildlife, and the health and safety of our communities.
* A spill at the mine site or on the transportation route could poison the land and water around the Boise River. The Boise River provides 22% of Boise's municipal water supply.
* Mine operations would involve trucking millions of pounds of cyanide, diesel fuel and other poisons every year on riverside roads well-known for landslides, washouts, and avalanches.
* Atlanta Gold proposes to store 850,000 gallons of diesel fuel in bladders in the heart of the Boise River watershed.
* This type of mining was banned in Montana after accidents poisoned water supplies.
Ask the Boise Mayor and City Council to protect our clean water by saying "NO" to the use of cyanide and other poisons in the headwaters of the Boise River.
Our elected officials must take a stand for clean water. Atlanta Gold has falsely told investors the mine project has strong community support. Our elected officials need to say loud and clear that the Boise River is the lifeblood of our community and open pit cyanide mining in the headwaters is not an acceptable risk. THE BOISE RIVER IS MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD!
