(UK coal-fired) Power station to battle climate change (ugh)
http://www.yorkshiretoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=55&ArticleID=2053778

The largest coal-fired power station in Western Europe will cut carbon dioxide emissions by five per cent in a drive to tackle climate change.

Emissions of one million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year from Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire will be prevented through a £100m turbine upgrade – the largest steam modernisation project in UK history.

The news came as the Government received a blow to its plans for a new generation of nuclear power stations – which were ruled unlawful by a High Court judge yesterday because of the "seriously flawed" public consultation process.

The decision could lead to a proliferation of other energy such as wind power but critics have said wind farms are unpredictable and unattractive.

2. I don't get the "unattractive" meme that people keep tossing around.
Old Dutch (etc.) windmills are considered "quaint" and "scenic".

Highway 80 through southern Pennsylvania (the Penna. Turnpike) passes through an area where there are several very large, stately wind turbines visible from the road. I'm surprised there haven't been any accidents from drivers watching the wind turbines.
