Al Gore's home energy usage
Is this true or another RW fabrication?

---

Al Gore’s Personal Energy Use Is His Own “Inconvenient Truth”
Gore’s home uses more than 20 times the national average

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Because this most certainly has been discussed a time or two on DU.

3. I have to admit that my home is fairly large;
however, we have reduced our energy usage substantially, we do have solar panels which do cover the pool, I drive a Prius, and not too much at that, we recycle like crazy, and we replaced all of our lightbulbs. We both work out of the home, so that is reducing the need for office space energy usage. We are currently planning a more environmentally-friendly home, as our friends cover their usage with their solar and wind energy, but am only willing to go down so far in space, since we both work out of the home, and homeschool the kid (she has unique needs)(she goes to a classroom two times per week).

I think that we just each have to keep plotting and planning in terms of how to lessen our energy usage.

My kid has an electric scooter she uses to get around locally.

Al Gore Caught Warming Globe To Increase Box Office Profits

December 18, 2006 | Issue 42•51

Dozens of eyewitness reports indicated that former vice president Al Gore deliberately attempted to raise the earth's temperature in order to boost box office receipts for An Inconvenient Truth, his documentary film about global warming that was released in May.

DESPERATE MEASURES
Former vice president Al Gore takes a flamethrower to the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica to boost weekend ticket sales for An Inconvenient Truth.

"We have accounts from concerned citizens that Mr. Gore purchased a Cadillac Escalade SUV several months before opened in theaters," said Kimberly Blume, spokeswoman for the California-based environmental group Friends Of The Earth. "Not only did Mr. Gore use his new gas-guzzler to make short trips to the grocery store, he also left the vehicle running 24 hours a day in the driveway of his Tennessee home with the air-conditioning on full-blast."

In the weeks following the film's release, witnesses reported additional sightings of Gore engaging in activities such as discharging can after can of 1980s-era, CFC-laden aerosol into the air, and single-handedly clear-cutting over 6,000 acres of Amazon rain forest.

"This was not even released by Republicans."

I haven't researched this, and don't really intend to. My understanding is that this story first appeared on the Drudge Report.

Since the IPCC report came out all they have left is smearing the messenger.

ConcertPOS would be surprised at how many people on this board have made changes in their personal lives because of their increased awareness of this issue. Why, Al's movie on its own has prompted tens of thousands of people to reduce their GHG emissions and overall consumption. We just don't talk about it much, generally preferring action to words.

Oh, that's right. The NSA and FBI and CIA have unlimited spying rights on Americans, that's how.

Go call somebody else a hypocrite. Like maybe the rich folks in my area with their big Suburbans and Denalis and Hummers for going to the market 6 blocks away.

13. Helped buld an eco-friendly housing project.
Get on Google Earth, go to: Wild Oak lane, Chico CA.. The map is wrong. Just to the south of the line are 30 units of duplex and triplex housing. They have extra insulation, open space, common meeting space, a childrens playground, community gardens and orchards, a shared pool, etc, etc etc. The common house is used to plan further environmentally friendly projects all the time.

My second daughter was born there, on the premises. Then I got snipped after 2 kids. My mother, my great aunt, my ex and occasionally my two kids live there.

Since then I have rehabbed and refit several other houses, insulating them, changing windows, rewiring them and otherwise recycling teardown houses. I buy locally produced foods at the abundant weekly farmers market to save food mile and eat only what's in season or dry goods. I do a bunch of other stuff that I don't want to list right now but you get the point.

How about you?

Also, a person that has worked for a power company for 38 years said that customer records, usage, billing amounts are confidential information so I am assuming that this is yet another attempt by the PTBS to try to nail Gore before he gets out of the gate. Seems that they are all scared as hell of this man.

There's yet another rumor (among many) circulating on the internet that Armand Hammer was behind Al Gore, etc :puke:

I suspect that comes from the fact that Al Gore's family owned stock in Occidental Oil, etc. The right wingers are trying everything they can to spread doubt about Gore, his background, etc.

Actually, I'm quite surprised to see the article about Gore on this board but it appears we do have our detractors here huh?

16. wait!
I think some of you misunderstood me. I am happy it sparked discussion though. I offset all of my usage but my number is a lot lower then Gores. How can a guy use as much in one month as most of us use in a year and then tell the rest of us how to live? Going after Drudge or this Tennessee group is useless. Gore does not dispute his consumption. Let's stay on track people and get this right.

Peace!

20. huh?
Maybe you can quote the specific part where Gore disputes his usage. Gore dismisses his usage because he "offsets" it but he has never disputed the groups claim. In fact, Gore has other housing and those figures have not been made public. Why is this difficult for you to understand? It does not disminish the issue other than our head man on it looks like a dumbass when he tells others how they should live and these types of stories are revealed.

23. FURTHERMORE
Furthermore, lets you and I discuss what we both have done to live more responsibly.

My wife & I sold our two homes (NYC and LA) and donated a large sum of money from the sales to various charities. We than built a solar home which generates free non-polluting solar energy. I could go on but I put my mouth to action. You have posted over 1,000 times here. Let's all now hear what exactly you have done for our environment.

Currently I am involved with www.ConcertSOS.com and it means a lot to me. I have worked with many artists and am bothered by hypocrisy I see. Perhaps my current anger for Gore stems from this. Too many people eagerly dismiss these stories but his actions hurt our cause. People like you do nothing to help when all you do is dismiss the numbers.

Now is the time for you to put up or shut up.
