Is There Such a Thing as a Window AC Thermostat?
Edited on Tue May-01-07 08:52 AM by ribofunk
I have several rental properties with no central air that use window air conditioning units. I would like to reduce energy usage if possible.

It occurred to me that the simplest way to do this would be to install a thermostat between the AC unit and the plug which would cut off when the temperature reaches a certain temperature.

Does such a thing exist?

2. Thank You
I was hoping for a device that could accomodate a standard electric plug at one end and plug into a wall socket with the other.

This one is for a refrigerator, but I'm sure it can be adapted for other uses. I actually have one of these that I use for my homebrewing and it keeps the temperature +/- 1 degree.

5. That's Closer
I can't see the whole unit. The most straightforward way would seem to be a plug on one end (shown) and a socket on the other (not shown).

Come to think of it, I have heard of similar things that control the temperature on the inside of a refrigerator. I used to do some home brewing too but never invested in a spare refrigerator.

3. My attic fan has a thermostat/humidistat that >

7. Some are built in
My old window unit would turn itself on and off with the temperature. I think most window units have a thermostat to turn the compressor on and off. But not all of them turn off the blower. If your in a position to replace some of the window units the newer high efficiency models may have such features built in.
