Idea for Public Transportation and Smart Growth DU group

Apologies to those who have already read this (I proposed it in the Disability and General Discussions forums)but I have an idea for a DU Group dedicated to advocating public transportation and better city planning to reduce America's dependence on the private car. I need the support of at least 10 DUers with gold donor stars next to their names for the mods to consider it, and I have only got 2 so far, so if you feel that this is a forum you would like to participate in, post a message of support on http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x852564">this thread.

1. I've Been An Occasional NARP Supporter

I've been an occasional supporter of NARP--the National Association of Railway Passengers (www.narprail.org). While NARP focuses much of its attention on Amtrak and commuter rail, it does occasionally advocate light rail and subways).

I'm not yet ready to set aside my automobile. However, there are more and more places where the hassles of having an auto (especially when you're looking for a parking space blocks away from your intended destination) outweigh the advantages of using one.
