Push for Tougher Rules on Wind Industry

By MARY CLARE JALONICK, Associated Press Writer

Sunday, June 3, 2007

(06-03) 06:54 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

Birds and bats have a powerful advocate in the new Congress, and he
is making the wind energy industry nervous.

Rep. Nick Rahall, chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee,
is pushing legislation that would more strictly regulate wind energy
to protect birds, bats and other wildlife killed when they fly into the
giant turbines.

Wind energy advocates say the bill could significantly cripple the
burgeoning industry and they brand the measure as "anti-wind."

After opposition from some members of his committee, Rahall has said
he will revisit the legislation. The wind provisions are "not locked
in stone," he said.

Still, Rahall, D-W.Va., believes more regulation would be a good idea.

The article goes on to say that Rahall's wind proposal may
also face opposition in the Senate.

1. Then we should ban vehicles and sliding glass doors.
He forgot bugs.

Good heavens. We finally have them moving on a clean method of generating electricity and they try to block it. I'm sorry, but I probably have too many birds knock themselves silly on sliding glass doors by his standards, but I'm not going to remove them.

Maybe someone can develop a high-pitched audio beam that could force them to fly another direction. I'm sure something could be done, but leave the turbines alone. Let's get moving on this project.

2. More turbines --> less demand for coal. Coincidence? I think not.
That's D-W.Va.

3. Fox in charge of the hen-house or what?
> Rep. Nick Rahall, chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee

Putting a coal industry puppet in charge of a "Natural Resources" committee
must be one of the most short-sighted and stupid appointments ever.

How about the traitorous turd do something about legislation to protect
birds, bats and other wildlife killed by the endless pollution from COAL?

4. I've come to expect more of the same from the Dem "leadership"
Frankly, over the longer term, I don't expect either major party to be a viable force in the post peak oil era.
