Suspicious Package In Hampton Turns Out To Be Bag Of Clothes

A bomb squad that spent more than three hours examining a suspicious package found outside a bank discovered it was full of clothing.

Hampton Fire Marshal Anne-Marie Loughran says the blue duffel bag was found outside the Bank of America at 7:10 this morning. Ever cautious, police considered the bag suspicious and summoned the regional bomb squad from Newport News to come x-ray it.

At 10:45 p.m., they determined the bag contained nothing but clothing.

1. What is it with suspicious packages today?

This is like the fourth article I've read about them--only one seemed to actually have been some danger, and that was to a repo company in Indiana--is it paranoia on our part that is doing this now? I can see cops worrying over a misplaced bag of laundry while the feds allow a truckload of something get through from Mexico in the interests of "free trade".
