Have a question on Passport Identification -

I have two outdated passports showing my date of birth and proof of citizenship plus a current driver’s license. Do I need to update the passport to use as Id at border crossings? .

and since passport fees are now over a hundred bucks, it's quite a racket.

You'll need to download the reapplication form, fill it out, and take it, your old passport, and a new mug shot to the post office. You pay for the passport, postage and processing there. They take checks, thank goodness.

My passport had been expired for over 15 years when I finally renewed it last spring. I expected to wait months but got it back in a couple of weeks.

3. I live in a border town but my dentist is in Mexico and it does seem like

"rip off" for a new passport. A trip to the dentist is not my idea of a fun trip in a foreign land.

a driver's license and another ID such as a birth certificate will do for now (til 2009).

I don't think an expired passport would be accepted. Seems stupid, but it would be considered "invalid".

You do live in a border town, so I'd think you could find out pretty easily there what "the scoop" is.

For now, if you have a driver's license or an AZ state ID, that's half of it. If you need a certified copy of your birth certificate and don't have one, you can usually get one in a few weeks and they're usually less than $20. I suspect if you have a passport, you have a BC anyway. Just be sure you have a CERTIFIED copy, not just a photocopy.

2. If you see yourself going over the border frequently...

They have introduced a passport card as an option for people who live in border areas. This way, no stamping, or delays. (supposedly)

6. It's live. You can't get one without a passport though.

So, if you need one, it's an extra $20.00 for a reapplication.

If you're a new passport applicant, it's much more expensive.

Give em a call & see if you can renew your expired passport.

And if you have to get a new photo, look in the yellow pages under "passport photos". I had to do it not too long ago and it was just a walk-in photocopying corner store.

We just received a notice from our post office. If you enter Mexcio or Canada you need a "card" which is issued to you by the federal government.

When I lived near the Canadian border we ran back and forth without any.

Now if you wish to travel overseas you do need an updated passport. The post office now issues them and I suppose the cards for Mexcio and Canada.

I'm not sure if the outdated ones will give you any cut rate for a new one. If you did it before it ran out you can mail it in and get an updated one cheaper than a new one. They expect you to keep them up to date.
