PRC's (China) crash is inevitable, warns Terrill

Terrill, a researcher with Harvard University's Fairbanks School, visited Taipei last week to address a conference on cross-strait relations and Taiwan's national security and to promote the Chinese-language translation of his most recent work, "The New Chinese Empire."

Taiwan News: How do you evaluate the prospects of the People's Republic of China becoming a democratic country?

Ross Terrill: In my book, "The New Chinese Empire," I only say that the Chinese Communist Party rule of the PRC is certain to end in the lifetime of most people in China and Taiwan. But what comes next could be democracy or could be worse, could be a break up, could be fascism.

will come to an end, all governments do, or at least there are
none more than a certain age, the oldest continuous governing
order was the Eastern Roman Empire, known also as the
Byzantine Empire, although at the time of it's demise is was
a mere shred of its former self.
