Violence mars campaign - Mocambique
Maputo - State television says the final days of campaigning ahead of local elections in Mocambique have been marred by violence across the country.

Mocambicans are due to elect councillors and mayors from 15 different political parties in 33 districts countrywide on Wednesday.

The state-run TVM reports that a group of opposition Mocambique national resistance (RENAMO) supporters severely assaulted a man in the central city of Beira allegedly for wearing a T-shirt of the ruling Mocambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO). The man was treated in hospital.

Tensions are also reported to be high in the town of Mocuba, in the central Mocambique province of Zambezia, after a last-minute disqualification of the RENAMO mayoral candidate, Jose Manteigas.
