Chen gains 55% approval rating, survey shows - Taiwan

Fifty-five percent of Taiwan residents are satisfied with President Chen Shui-bian's (???) performance over the past three years, a new survey conducted by the Cabinet-level Research, Development and Evaluation Commission showed yesterday.

In comparison, the survey showed that 30 percent of those polled are not satisfied with the performance of President Chen. Sixty percent said that they are satisfied with Premier Yu Shyi-kun's (???) performance, compared with 21 percent who said they are not satisfied.

On the overall performance of the Cabinet, half of these polled said that they are satisfied, compared with 29 percent who said they are not.

Compared with the results of the last poll conducted in November, the approval ratings of the president, the premier, and the Cabinet have all risen by around 3 percent, while the disapproval rating has maintained about the same level.
