Inactive Reserve Callup May 17?
A young mother in our family is in the inactive reserve, Army Airborne and was contacted by someone, possibly and overzealous recruiter, yesterday and told that all inactive people would be assigned to units by next week and would be called up starting May 17 for duty most likely in Iraq.

We have been unable to verify this by news media, military informational websites or those already serving.

Anybody heard anything

1. During Gulf War I I was on inactive reserve
and had a date to come in to process. I would think they would need to give some time for folks to be evaluated for fitness of duty before they suddenly call folks up. IR is much different than being RR. You are completely free of military duties and regulation. Until I got the letter telling me of my appt I had nearly forgotten the IR responsibility.

FWIW, the Gulf War ended before my appt date and they were kind enough to send a letter canceling.

3. have you been promoted yet?
During the first few conversations I had with them I found out they had promoted me after I had left active service.

4. Yeah, it was kind of them
they moved me up a pay grade. Woooo-hoooo! Actually, if I had 20 in it would've made a big difference - and I think they do that somewhat regularly. However, it woulda been nice to have the extra stripe while I was in uniform. They downgraded the award I was put in for, though. HQ decided that since I was no longer AD I didn't need whatever so I got the next lower. That was fine - it allowed someone on AD to have the award AND points to promotion.

2. Haven't heard anything about it.
Dosen't mean it isn't true though.

Considering that my branch manager has been going to great pains to remind me I am "loved and remembered" I would expect that I would have gotten the same call. Could also be MOS specific, like calling in the Doctors and lawyers, but leaving the grunts like me alone.

5. It was MOS specific Gulf War era
I knew folks who had gone in for processing before I ever got my first letter.

I'm guessing they will need to call up a lot of MPs.

7. Many of us here at DU...
...would appreciate the warning. Though the Freepers would have you believe otherwise, lots of liberals and Democrats have helped defend this country, and continue to do so today.
