Marching Dutch say multi-culture will survive

The Hague - Some 4 000 people joined a silent march on Wednesday in the southern Dutch town of Uden to protest against a fire that destroyed an Islamic primary school there, the Dutch ANP news agency said.

The school was completely destroyed on Tuesday by the fire set by unknown arsonists who sprayed graffiti about the murder of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh.

Dutch Prime Minster Jan Peter Balkenende also visited Uden on Wednesday. He called on the Dutch people "not to get caught up in the maelstrom of violence" after a spate of attacks on mosques and Christian churches in the Netherlands.

3. Actually

Things are quieting down somewhat. There was a big push by government to ask for unity, and both sides of the story where displayed in fairly large detail on national media.

This has helped make the separation between Muslim and Muslim fundamentalist, as it has helped make a separation between neocon/neofascist and white people in general.

The situation is currently much less tense then a couple of days ago, and although the media are still focused on the issue, the focus is now more on preventive action, who was to blame, and what can be done about integration. It is much more investigative journalism now.

Still a LOT of work to be done though.
