U.S. fights (Venezuelan) deportation denial
The United States has appealed an immigration judge's ruling preventing the deportation to Venezuela of two suspected bombers.

Former Venezuelan national guard Lts. Jose Antonio Colina and German Rodolfo Varela are suspected in the bombings of the Spanish Embassy and the Colombian consulate in Caracas Feb. 25, 2003.

Immigration Judge Neale Foster ruled last month that the two would likely be tortured if they were returned to Venezuela, The Miami Herald reported Friday.

Lawyers for the Department of Homeland Security argued in its appeal Thursday that another suspect in the case, Gen. Felipe Rodriguez, has been arrested in Venezuela and there has been no evidence of torture.

I do not understand why Homeland Security would fight to send these guys back to Venezuela using as a basis of their appeal that Venezuela does not torture its prisoners.

1. Well, it's an interesting situation, I will admit.
Perhaps bombing the Spanish and Colombian embassies, as
opposed to less "sensitive" targets, has something to do with
it, and perhaps taking things into their own hands. And from
what I can tell they really are assholes, but that doesn't
seem to be very relevant in other cases ...

I suppose their could be elements of political expediency at
work here too, these guys may have overestimate their own
importance.

We already know the USA does not mind a bit or torture now and
then, so that's not really the issue.
