Woman killed when argument turns to gunfire in E. Houston
What's that line about an armed society being a polite society? - Wayne

Woman killed when argument turns to gunfire in E. Houston

(9/17/03 - HOUSTON) —
A woman was shot and killed after an argument in east Houston overnight.

Police say two cars stopped off at Dan and Hershe. Shortly after an argument started between two men, a woman got out of one of the cars and someone shot her. Before she went down, she fired back.

In all, three people were hit. All of the victims drove themselves to LBJ Hospital. The woman died on the way.

1. you know, I agree that a polite society is desirable.....
....most of us are downright rude at times.
But I'd like to think we're a polite society because we were raised to be polite and respectful, not because we're all scared shitless of each other...

11. Congratulations on one of the stupidest comments I've read in ages...
Well done.

If they hadn't been armed, CLEARLY they would all have repeatedly driven at each other's cars until one was dead and the others injured.

There is absolutely NO link between having a weapon with you and being able to draw and shoot it during an argument.

Arguments start and sometimes they escalate into violence.

"Sick twisted people will always find ways to carry out their sick twisted schemes" - what a beautiful, handy way for you to write off any link between killing and having a gun. Basically, you're saying that the killing would have happened regardless of whether a gun was there or not.

Well NEWSFLASH.....I don't suppose for a moment that these were "sick twisted people" who were determined to go out and kill someone. These were people who got in an argument that escalated to violence and who reached for the weapon that came to hand. Without a gun we'd be looking at a fistfight and considerably less tragedy.

P.S.
If you're being sarcastic, sorry, I'm not on top form today.....

"Collinsville Police say a 21-year-old man was run-over and dragged by a car after an argument turned into a fistfight in the Parking Lot of Wild Country Nightclub."

I accept your apology Pert.

13. Hold your horses.......
That actually lends weight to my argument...

I didn't say that cars were NEVER used as weapons. Clearly there are occasions when someone will deliberately use a car to attack someone.

However, this is hardly the same as having a large number of deliberate car-murders each year, nor would I accept that there is the same likelihood that a fistfight would turn into a car attack, as a fistfight would turn into a gun being pulled, providing that each were present.

My point is still valid - sometimes people snap during an argument and reach for the nearest weapon. I would contend that if the nearest weapon is a gun then it is more likely to be used than if the nearest weapon is a car.

A car is a somewhat unwieldy, difficult object to use as a weapon, and I'm all in favour of making violent assault more difficult.

There was a huge post war of articles going both ways a little while back. I think actually people from other boards came over to the J/PS Forum to scold us when it broke out, becuase it clogged the main board.

It happened not too long ago...I am kinda curious as to what would be the motivation to do it again. It is obvious everyone in this forum is still on the same side they were on before the post war started.

7. Do you have a link?
Ill take a look at the thread. What kind of post war articles? CSPAN helped me get my mind back on track of politics instead of flame wars in the dungeon. You should watch more CSPAN.

8. Scroll into the archives of old posts in the dungeon..
and look for a bunch of posts that started on the same day just a few hours apart.

Just to clarify, by post war I do NOT mean after the Iraq war. I mean a post war like you post one defensive gun story, and I post a murder via gun in return..

Edit to add the shrug. :-)

14. Why not?
When you do, be sure and explain why the person using the gun could not have registered that gun...or bought it legally...or passed a background check....or needed more than one that month...
