Gardnerville man described intrusion as "horror movie"

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) - A Gardnerville man who shot and killed a convicted killer who forced his way into his home said the late-night intrusion was like a horror movie.

In newly released police reports, Charles Cryderman told investigators that Walter Hetrick, who spent nearly 20 years in and out of California psychiatric hospitals, continued crawling down a hallway toward his children's bedroom after being shot three times, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.

Cryderman, a Douglas County businessman, told investigators the incident was like the movie "Friday the 13th" or "Jack Nicholson in 'The Shining,'".

Cryderman, 52, said he was watching television around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 2 when Hetrick, whom he had never met, showed up at his door looking for a woman named Stacy. Cryderman told him he had the wrong house.

According to the reports, The 6-1, 230-pound Hetrick became angry, starting talking about rape and began pounding on the door.

How bizarre. Multiple wounds from a .357 and still kept on going.

Bullets are not the magic stoppers the movies would like you to believe. Right now I'am reading "Rendezvous with Destiny" the history of the 101 Airborne division. Time after time GI's getting hit with rifle bullets and then walking to aid stations to get medical help. My favorite story is of the IL state police when they first went to the 9mm. They got into a gunfight with a hired killer. Bad guy took about 30 9mm hits, a couple of shotgun slugs and was still shooting back. Another cop finally had enough of him and ran him over with his patrol car.

Anyone care to tell me HOW and WHY this individual was able to get access to a gun?????

He could have walked into any gun show in the state and bought one without a background check...

he was unarmed the entire time...it was the homeowner that had the gun.

the "safest" thing for that homeowner was to have tossed his handgun into the ocean before that poor mane came looking for his friend.

How could we let this happen to that poor psychiatric patient?

I didnt see anything in there about a time limit....but. They did have a rule about respect, something about being rude or bigoted.

For example, if someone posts factually incorrect information, it is appropriate to say, "your facts are wrong," but it is not appropriate to say "you are a liar."Im not for sure since its not 100% spelled out in the rules but i would think that calling someone, or it seems some groups, entire posts to be "bone-stupid would be against the DU rules.

I dont like to have people on ignore. When i click on a thread and the only new posts are his i just dont even bother reading i just go on to the next thread. I did happen to catch this one and thought i would take the time to point out the DU rules since MrBenchly wasnt aware of them. :-)

He writes the Bob Boudelang editorials, so he enjoys some sort of sacred cow status here on DU.

Although most of the time it's never a challenge for me. I consider it practice for people with actual intelligence like our esteemed opponent CO Liberal.
