One gun dealer....347 crimes
Another criminal enterprise in action...

"An Elmwood Park gun shop that is a defendant in Chicago's lawsuit against the firearms industry Wednesday was named among the 10 worst gun dealers in America by a national gun control group.
Breit & Johnson Sporting Goods Inc. sold 347 guns between December 1989 and January 1996 that later were traced to crimes, including 27 murders, according to figures released by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
Breit & Johnson's firearms license was revoked by the ATF in October 2001 because "they weren't maintaining proper records of firearm ," Ahern said. The company has been allowed to continue selling guns while appealing that decision, according to Ahern.
Breit & Johnson is among 39 named defendants in a federal lawsuit brought against gunmakers and dealers by Chicago and Cook County. Defendants include gunmakers Glock Inc. and Smith & Wesson Corp., and several Chicago-area gun dealers."

Don't worry, though, the GOP and the NRA have ccome up with a way to end these outrages...they're going to keep the ATF from inspecting gun dealers at all...

"Tiahrt's eight-point amendment, which targets the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and was drafted with the NRA's help, would prohibit the use of federal funds for several bureau activities. It would prevent the bureau from requiring firearms dealers to conduct a physical inventory, from denying licenses to dealers whose sales fall below a certain level, and from demanding that certain dealers provide documentation for all used guns sold in a specific period."

1. So much for the 'enforce the laws we have' mantra
I don't have a problem with enforcing the current laws, but evidently the NRA does.

2. Also so much for the "law abiding gun owner" myth
this NRA-drafted amendment is clearly aimed at letting dealers sell guns to crriminals unimpeded...

3. It's not always the dealer's fault...
Very often the "law abiding" gun idiots buy the guns then sell them to criminals. According to the local police, over 3/4's of the guns used in local crimes came from the gun idiots that bought guns legally then sold them to someone they knew couldn't legally buy one. Those idiots can't be trusted with those things. They've proven that over and over again. So, why always blame the gun dealer for those crimes? They have no control over what their violent buyers do.
