Any more on the guy who shot that Democratic party leader?
So is there any more info on the shooter that shot that Democratic Headquarters leader a week or so ago?

1. Nothing new - so far no political connections known - motive unknown.
The guy, as you probably know, was fired that day from a job at a Target store (no connection with Gwatney. Police reportedly found a "post-it" note with Gwatney's name and a phone number (they haven't said what phone number, a bunch of guns and an antidepressant Rx in the guy's house. The man did not work for Gwatney. I think they have also verified that his voting record in party primaries was part Dem, and part Repub (in Arkansas, you don't have to register by party affiliation and can vote in either primary).

Very strange - the guy did go home from work, presumably to get guns, after being fired. He lived in Searcy, AR, which is about 50 miles from LR. The Target store was in Conway, which is about 20-25 miles from LR in a different direction.

2. I think I read that his old classmates said
that he was very anti dem. THat anytime a democrat died, he laughed about it. Sorry can't say where the info came from but I think it was here on DU. Might do a search.

He was apparently pretty into computers. I can't help but to think that he must post on some site. I wouldn't doubt that if we found that site, we would find clues leading up to his actions.

4. really

Could anything have been tackier?

I think not.

That was just tacky.

Some people will just exploit anything to push their stupid nasty agenda, won't they?

Nice hat. Snork.

I just kept wondering why "my wife" didn't step on camera and speak for her own damned self ...

Jeezus. Who will be to blame if more "liberal" politicians are killed? Why, firearms control advocates.

Talk about yer hate speech.

5. Have a nice day...
If you want to play "death by a thousand cuts" with the video, have at it. But it won't prevent any other senseless killings like Gwatney's.

6. I agree. Stupid video.
Stupid video. Unrelated to the shooting, simply used as a segue into his own diatribe.

Plus I don't like when people read to me from cue cards. If you are going to read me pre-written material, why not just post the text? I can read myself, thanks.

9. Back what up?
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 12:37 PM by gorfle
What would you like me to back up?

On edit:

I'm guessing you want me to back up that the fellow is reading from cue cards.

I quit watching shortly thereafter.

The speaker's eyes continually cut down and to his right - clearly he's reading cue cards with talking points. The video is not verbatim reading, which would be worse, but it's obvious enough that this is something that could just be presented as text.

8. stop that

I'm too busy to hang around here agreeing with you this week.

Huge amount of work to get done before I can run away for the weekend and go on roller coasters. Wheeee.

So don't go upsetting my very delicately balanced schedule!

Gee....Did you have the feeling that he'd defend guns before people? What an asshat.

10. Good video despite the criticism ...
I agree with the viewpoints expressed, whether or not they came off cue cards.

Perhaps a youtube video is worth 1000 posts on DU.

13. On your video
I was rude with my earlier assessment of your video.

It's not a "stupid" video. I think it was unrelated to the shooting of that Democratic center leader, but that is beside the point.

My annoyance stems from years of college professors who "teach" by simply reciting talking points from their notes. To me, this is a complete waste of time - they could have saved us all hours of lecture time simply by handing out their talking points. Perhaps there is something more compelling about a video message than a text message for some, but to me, the selling point of documentary video is to get unrehearsed monologue.

I know you are a champion of 2nd Amendment rights so I wanted to apologize for my rudeness.

14. It's okay...
I had a lot to cover in that video, and I had a lot of retakes due to battery failure, stumbling on words, etc., so I was trying to make sure I had the bases covered. But no cue cards - just some notes that I reviewed before stepping in front of the camera.

We're good. :hi:
