ARMED FEMALE SHOOTS HOME INVADER IN CHEST

Pics of bad guys...

Three men attempted to break into the basement of a house in the 3300 block of Dondis Creek Drive in Triangle about 10 a.m.

A 47-year-old woman, a mother who was staying at home with an illness at the time, said she heard her burglar alarm going off.

So she grabbed a handgun and went to the basement to investigate.

She confronted the men, who fled. One turned around and came toward her, however, and the woman shot him in the chest.

Police later found 24-year-old Steven A. Terrentine, who lived in the Dumfries area, nearby and suffering from a gunshot wound.

Terrentine matched the description of the man the woman said she shot, police said. He was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but has since been released from medical care.

He was charged with attempted burglary and destruction of property and was being held in the Prince William-Manassas regional jail on $10,000 bond. He is due in court Feb. 3.

A second man, Kyle D. Winston, 26, of Stafford County, was arrested Tuesday in Anne Arundel County, Md., in connection with the incident.

He was also charged with attempted burglary and destruction of property, police said, and was being held pending extradition to Virginia.

The third suspect, Payne, was located in an apartment in the 1200 block of Bayside Avenue in Woodbridge, Hernandez said.

She didn't have information on his criminal record, but she said he was "well known" to police.

1. good for her
I was held up at gunpoint and bought a 357 and nearly killed an old man seeking donations for heart association. Had moved to ranching community and didn't know that it was normal for unknown neighbors to open your door. Don't have the gun anymore but husband has many elephant killing guns.

3. What is that crook, Superman?
He was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but has since been released from medical care.

Ahh, I see upon closer inspection this happened over a week ago. I suspect that while Mister Gunshot Wound was recuperating from his (fortunate, for him) wound, some intrepid detective convinced him to flip on his buddies for perhaps a bit of sentencing consideration, and that's how they were rounded up so quickly and with so little fuss.

I'll bet they will think twice about robbing the home of some middle-aged "easy target" in future. That nitwit is lucky she didn't do the mafiosi "One-Two-Three" at the guy. They usually don't get up after that kind of treatment.

8. Alarm = "to arms"
They probably figured nobody was hope and if someone was home they weren't armed.

Bad news for them is they were wrong on both counts.

9. That just can't be
The TV spots for ADT, Brinks and other security systems firms always show the bad guy (or guys) turning and running away as soon as the alarm goes off and the phone rings with the well dressed guy calling to check on the resident who was exercising, reading to her daughter etc.

My wife watches those and laughs out loud when the bad guy who is always less than 10 feet from the woman/victim just takes off.

12. Once we had a home with an alarm in it, we wanted one from there on out
Even if its just for fire while you are not there.

The ads are scams for multiple reasons. The super cheap systems have few functions and the real goal is to get you on very expensive monitoring contract for 5 years or more. The systems are also leased and not even yours.

Last couple of places I have been I have done my own with high end components. Tailored better than anything ADT would do. Medical monitoring, lights and HVAC can all be tied in. I live out in the twigs today and am gone often. The security system has paid off more than once. It buys your time in the classic scenario of when you need help in seconds the police are minutes away.

15. We make fun of that TV spot.
Heres how we picture it.
Bad guy tries to break into house, homeowner grabs gun shoots him in the chest, then calls 911..
A large gun appears on the screen and a deep husky voice goes..
He won't break into your house anymore are'nt you glad she had a gun.

Glock (insert your weapon of choice) protection for life and no monthly payments...

its gotta be a blow to your criminal ego knowing you outnumbered a 47yo woman 3 to 1 and still got nailed.

16. She did great!!!
She just needs a few more days at the range.

Hopefully with better shot placement they will just be recovering 3 dead bad guys if this ever happens again.

19. Why weren't people reaching out to them BEFORE they attacked that woman?!?
It's sad that they felt driven to attach another individual.

A woman's home is her castle too. I'm the same way about my home...only I make medieval, primitive weapons and set booby traps while I'm saving up for my gun.
