Lance Thomas, Shop owner with a gun survives 4 attacks by gang members.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkWgp2abM2w
Other shop owners were murdered in his area so he got a gun.
Lots of attacks on him including straight up execution attempts. He survived all of them. He is not macho or posturing with his gun. But he did survive, just barely. He would have died had he not had a gun and chose to use it.

1. My old squad leader use to say
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

I believe that still to this day now that does not mean I will go out looking for trouble but if you violate my personal space with and act of violence expect to be dealt with same violence no bones and no joy

2. Half of all gun deaths are suicides.
Just saying.

3. You're saying guns cause suicide? And gay marriage causes homosexuality?
They are an efficient way to commit suicide. So are sleeping pills. High buildings. Gas ovens. All of these things cause suicide?

5. The point being made was that this guy was saved because he had a gun.
For some people, it goes the other way.

7. Apples and oranges.
Anything can be misused and probably is by someone.

The suicide issue is certainly worth discussing but that's not what this thread is about.

6. Yet the U.S. suicide rate is LOWER that that of Canada, the UK, most of Europe, or Japan.
For our suicide rate to match that of the countries you'd like us to emulate, our rate would have to go up. And that's despite our much greater rich-poor gap, relative lack of social safety nets, limited access to mental health care, and disparities in access to health care in general.

10. It doesn't matter, really. I knew a State Trooper who hung himself.

His gun made no difference one way or the other, as is likely most often the case with suicides.

17. It was probably recorded as "gun related" since one was present.

11. I respect that choice.
I merely ask to retain the right to make that choice for myself; my wife and I have both chosen to own guns, lawfully and responsibly.

16. If you did have a gun would you be more inclined to commit
suicide? You personally now, the whole people who own guns are more likely to commit suicide with a gun than those who don't has been repeatedly refuted here, we all know that people with red cars are more likely to die in a red car accident than those without. The question is does gun ownership cause one to commit suicide?

14. Shop owner defends himself 4 times, and survives.
No matter how many intentional thread derails are started, it won't change the fact that there is an actual store owner who stood his ground against superior numbers of gangsters and they never got him. He saved himself when the police wouldn't have been able to help him. Not just once but 4 times.

Go ahead and start of the list of things that could have gone wrong. They didn't. Bad guys lost, store owner and all innocents survived. Other store owners in the same neighborhood being unarmed were executed in their own stores.

Armed store owner= dead bad guys.
Unarmed store owner=dead store owner.
