Child gun victim honored in gun lock give away
VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Police Department partnered with New Century Outdoors Friday to give away free gun locks in honor of 7-year-old Ali Antwan Gillard, who was accidentally shot and killed recently while he and his brother played with a gun.

Also, a memorial service will be held for Ali today at Southside Recreation Center, which will launch a gun-awareness project in his name.

1. Education
and affordable safety devices are the key to preventing accidents. I applaud this.

Money spent on free gun locks and safety education will go farther than any number of feel good buybacks.

2. There's absolutely no excuse
for folks with children not to have a cable or trigger lock. All new handguns must come with one by law, cities and municipalities frequently give them away, heck even the NRA gives them away at gun safety events.

3. A trigger lock is the bare minimum safety device for securing a firearm
They are not very effective and can be defeated by a determined person.

If that's all you can afford, so be it. But a locking metal cabinet or a safe is much better.

4. There is a very long list of things parents should protect their kids from.
The local lady who killed her kid by telling him to sit on the mattress in the back of the pickup truck to keep it from blowing out, she is they type who's kid would be killed while playing with a loaded gun.

Some young kids have knives, drive tractors, walk in the swamp, build fires, and shoot guns. They do so safely, under supervision, and they learn.
They have a different kind of parent.

6. Can't have that
If students learn how to safely handle guns in school, they'll want to lean how to safely shoot guns. And then they'll become informed and thoughtful gun owners when they grow up. And that means that the anti-gun forces will lose their pool of gun-ignorant activists to organize. Not to mention that then there will be more guns and more gun owners in America, contrary to the goals of the anti-gun movement.

It's like sex education... we can't teach them because then they might go out and do it!

9. I cannot argue your reasoning on that. Makes perfect since. I am
reminded of my high school days. There was an elective class called "Ag". It was an agriculture class where the kids learned about raising crops and animals. They also learned to harvest both in human ways. Part of that curriculum was a hunter safety course so that the kids could get their hunting licenses if they (and their parents) chose to.

7. Figures that they would do this in a right wing place like valdosta, ga
They should hand out $100 bills to everyone that turns in a gun to be destroyed.

10. The last
San Francisco buyback handed out most of their funds to a pack of Nevada gun dealers who brought in boxes of broken Lorcins and rusted Mosin-Nagants to turn in. Yep, took those non-functional guns off the streets.

11. They had better have a huge stack of $100 bills
Most of my guns cost $500 and up. In fact they would be better off with $1000 bills.

12. Please do, I have several "junk guns" I keep for spare parts...
I would like a hundred spot for each one.......

And I can wait in the parking lot, and "intercept" anything that looks nice for a little over what you are offering!!

Help me raise funds for more AR15's and other assorted arms.

Their are literally thousands of us, that keep an eye out, for just such an event.
