Reflection about the recent "up tick" in Brady/VPC/MMM activity..
Edited on Wed Jun-03-09 10:43 PM by virginia mountainman
I took a hard look at the Texas Campus Carry situation, the court cases in Chicago, and Philly. Their is lots of "chest beating" and puffery coming from Brady and their ilk, but the thing, we must realize is the simple facts...

A; The Texas situation, was caught up in the fight over "Real ID" in Texas, so it, and many other bills in Texas where caught up in this, their is next year, and it still looks like we will get our way.

B; We fully EXPECTED the Chicago case to go this way, this, is a Win for us, this will help assure that the SCOTUS will take up the question of incorporation among the states....THIS WAS THE INTENT ALL ALONG!! To get the CLEARLY ILLEGAL GUN BANS OF CHICAGO in front of the US Supreme Court.. This is the path to victory!

C; Philly, is a lost cause for the Brady Camp, Pennsylvania has FULL Preemption, Cities CANNOT PASS ANY GUN LAWS, the NRA can use it's winnings from this slam dunk case, to fund more important needs!

Another thought, look how wild some of the reporters have gotten over this, they are celebrating status quo, like it is a great victory, and in all cases, it WILL come back soon.

They are celebrating "not loosing" is really what they are happy about, but they forget, the Pro Civil rights side, did not loose on these issues either...All of them, are still up in the air, and I would be dollars, to donuts, Texas Campus Carry, WILL be back next year.

Here is a link to some of the worse, of the "chest beating"

http://blogs.houstonpress.com/hairballs/2009/06/guns_campus_legislature.php

It is amazing how they now celebrate, "nothing changing" ROFLMAO!!!

The heady days of Sara Brady, holding clinched fists over her head in victory are long past....Now all she can do is run her puppets, like McCarthy, and Fienstein

We must stay vigilant, and be ready, at a moments notice, to apply full pressure to any legislator, who tries to impede our pro civil rights movement.

Keep the office visits, letters, and phone calls coming folks!!

1. TX Legislature meets every other year..
.. unless special session called for a specific purpose. So it'll be two years before it can get on the table again. But I agree, it'll likely be a slam dunk.

2. It's all reactive, and that's being charitable
The prohibitionist groups (such as they are) no longer hold the initiative. The only "uptick" in their activity has been to thump their chests when an effort by pro-RKBAers encounters a temporary setback, generally without any input from the Bradies, VPC or CSGV.

The MMM has been defunct for several years already; I think their stuff was rolled into the Brady Campaign. Man, that organization was an unending series of bad jokes.

3. Good post. The Rethugs at Brady are fighting a defensive battle now.
I'm very happy for the Heller victory.

4. We need to keep them on the Defensive..
I don't think that they will ever just "go away" their will always be Anti-civil rights idiots that keep sending in their check, and go to the meetings, but like the KKK, we can marginalize them well past the point of impotence.

5. Desperate for attention

Even the media seems to be ignoring them lately. Paul Helmke Sara and Hennigan must be feeling particularly unloved of late.

I'm betting that the new Blue Dog Dems in Congress are not eager to be seen meeting with Brady people by their constituents and you know they would publish the news the minute they met with them.

I'm picturing them sitting in a couple of offices with a bunch of yellowing rally banners, press clippings and posters from their old glory days peeling off the wall and looking at a lonely phone on a single desk that never rings.

Once a day they eagerly open the handful of envelopes that are mailed in with small checks from Rosie O'Donnel and posters here that believe everything they say, and total the contributions for the month of June. "Eureka, we have a new record, $23.45 this month, quick call the RNC and tell them we're still here!" says Helmke.
