Bought an AK variant last night
I went with my buddie to pick up an AK. He got a pre ban Maddi with 2 stocks, 4 30 round mags, and 6 boxes of ammo for $450. No papers to sign.... it was from the newspaper. I just wanted to share with you my new fear tactic i am using to close the newspaper loophole :-) I gotta go now. We are getting ready to go shooting. A to the motha fuckin K homeboy.

1. How helpful. Not.
You do realize that an intruder is just as likely to take that fancy weapon away from you and use it on you as you are to use it on an intruder?

Most likely use for a gun is against yourself or a loved one.

Great purchase.

2. Two things
1- An AK is not a 'fancy weapon'.

2- Where do you get your numbers? Have a link handy?

But I agree 'great purchase'.

5. If it were a handgun I'd have to agree.
As it is a rifle the chances of it being used by either participant in a robbery is pretty damn low. Used effectively is even lower.

4. Most likely...
...but at least he'd get shot by a really nice weapon as opposed to something as common as a Saturday Night Special.

8. I too
Would like to see this:

"Most likely use for a gun is against yourself or a loved one."

expressed numerically, and compared to the amount of gun owners in the usa.

10. Most likely use for a gun
"Most likely use for a gun is against yourself or a loved one."

I've heard this before but never see any basis for the statement. Is it from a study and if so can you post a link to it. There is movement to pass concealed carry in Ohio and I think such a study might be of value.

11. Uh, what?
Oh, the 40 times more likely lie..........
Do you realize that an unarmed victim is 100% at the mercy of a criminal? Sorry, I will not submit to the whims of a criminal. I wish you all the luck in the world if you are ever in that situation.

13. Weapons
The most likely use for my weapons is at the shooting range and in competitions. In fact, that use is regular, continuous, and all but guaranteed to continue.

The second most likely use is to defend myself and my family. The claim that a gun is "most likely" to be used against myself or my family is absurd.

Besides which, he never claimed it was for home defense.

19. Just like they do to police all the time
Everyone knows that the bad guys regularly take guns away from the police and use them against them. (sarcasm off)

Where do people get this wacky idea that you are holding a gun and somehow magically the bad guy will take it away from you and shoot you before you can pull the trigger.

Oh, wait, that was an HCI claim. Well is Sara and Tom Diaz said it, it must be true. My apologies for asking for anything even vaguely factual to back up that statement.

20. There are East German mags floating around....
you can tell them because they have a raised spine on the back of the mag. Personally, I find them to be uncomfortable when changing mags...but hey, to each his own.

12. Good price
That's seems like a fantastic price for a pre-ban Maddi. Having the extra deadly bayonet lug and flash supressor really jacks up the price. ;)

You can get some great deals in private sales. My brother-in-law just got a pre-ban AR15 for a steal from a guy who is moving back to the Phillipines and can't take it with him.

Anyway, congratulations on the great purchase. I'm in the market for an AK variant myself. With all the cheap surplus ammo out there, you can't beat them as plinkers.

14. Pre Ban Maadi
Is it one of the early 1980's Steyr made ones? Those are the Cadillacs of Kalashnikov as they were machined and assembled to Steyr quality specs. If you got one of these for $450, you paid less than 1/3 or so of market.
