Mother arrested over daughter's shooting
ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A 26-year-old woman has been arrested in the accidental shooting of her 5-year-old daughter in Orlando, Fla., police say.

The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel said Wednesday that Arkeisha Perez was arrested and charged with allowing a minor access to a weapon with injury, unsafe storage of a firearm and aggravated child abuse in relation to Tuesday's shooting.

Specific details regarding the recent shooting remain unclear, but the incident left Perez's 5-year-old daughter, Jazyire Emery Sims, in critical condition at an area hospital.

"We don't have any suspects," police Lt. Darryl Braunskill said. "You got people in the apartment complex and something happened. They have to have some sort of idea of what happened or saw what was going on at the apartment."

1. Basic gun safety should be taught in public schools
That would include teaching people the importance of keeping firearms secured so that children can't get them.

2. I hope the daughter recovers. I hope the mom does some jail time and loses custody.

3. Jail and loss of custody for this dumbo.
Jeez, gun safety is not a difficult concept to grasp.

4. ah, difficult concepts to grasp

I wonder whether the one about growing up in foster care with your mum in prison ... if you survive the gunshot injury ... is worth considering.

Never mind doing anything to reduce the risk of kids getting shot.

Put their mothers in jail. That will fix everything.

6. Not really,
My siblings and I grew up around guns and I have had weapons in my home when my nieces and nephews have visited. Gun safety around children is not difficult. It just requires common sense.

"Put their mothers in jail. That will fix everything."

It will in this case. After her jail sentence, she'll have the chance to prove herself a fit mother again.

7. punish and blame, blame and punish

I guess putting a kid in care "fixes" that kid's life.

Actually, I guess you don't actually give a shit about the kid. As long as somebody can be blamed and punished, nothing else matters.

It doesn't matter that there are things that can be done to reduce the numbers of kids who die of, or survive, gunshot wounds. It doesn't matter that when something like this happens, the kid is the one who suffers, not just from the gunshot wound, but from losing a parent. It doesn't matter that at least some of these events are avoidable, if there is the political will to do what is needed to reduce the risk of them happening.

Nope. All that matters is that ME ME ME can have all the guns me wants, when me wants them, where me wants them.

I know. You don't have to keep telling me.

9. Do you have a point, other than the one on topof your head?
Have a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut. That should keep you occupied for a bit.

11. well hmm

You do still need to take a gander at the rules, but meanwhile I'll chuckle.

Have a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut.

I don't think I've intimated that I'm a lesbian. Because, like, I mean, I'm not.

Lobbing an insult that misses its target so badly, you must feel silly.

Or maybe you just can't even see the silliness, and sexism, in what you do.
