Headline:Gator Bites Off Man’s Arm (or why its a good idea to keep a .357 in your golf bag)

http://www2.wsav.com/sav/news/local/article/gator_bites_off_mans_arm/55574/

FRIPP ISLAND, S.C.—A man lost part of his arm Thursday when he was attacked by an alligator while golfing on Fripp Island, according to News 3’s media partners at the Island Packet.

The Island Packet reports the man, who is in his 70’s, was at the 11th hole at the Ocean Creek Golf Course. He was apparently picking up his ball when a gator grabbed his arm and dragged him into a nearby pond.

The man reportedly lost his arm below the elbow in the struggle.

Dave Corneliussen from Tracks Wildlife Control was called in to deal with the animal.

Seriously, some of my friends used to tease me about keeping a .357 in my golf bag, but when you play golf in the South (and your balls wind up in the water), its a good idea. Of course a gun in my bag wouldn't help me if I was bitten, but I could help save someone else in short order.

I appreciate that GA state laws allow concealed carry.

1. Too damn proud to take the lost ball penalty
So he took a chance reaching into the swamp for his ball and the gator won.

If your ball lands in the water, its gone, specially in the south.

3. The real possibility exists that you would shoot the "someone else", yourself, another bystander ...
or two or more of the above and never shoot the damned alligator.

14. Just yesterday up near Houston
There was some incredible nitwittery .

////////////
Witnesses say it all started innocently enough with a pit bull playfully showing the neighbors affection.

"Sugar was jumping up and down. She's so happy, and all the kids ran up," said Filidei.

Officer Sabrina Sanders happened to be in the neighborhood on an unrelated call. She drove by and reported seeing Sugar attacking several people. Police say the officer drew her weapon and fired at the dog, hitting it. But a bullet fragment ricocheted off the ground and hit Filidei's daughter.

"Then my daughter falls to the ground, and I'm grabbing this kid and she's still shooting. She's still shooting, trying to shoot the dog," said Filidei.

Witnesses say about a half dozen people dodged bullets.

6. Any idea what it takes to kill a 'gater? 357 might do it if yer lucky
an' if the 'gater co-operates, which ain't likely. Keep in mind a 'gater grows as long as he lives an' ones't he gets ta a few feet long he lives as long as 'e wants ta. First off there ain't many vulnerable spots to shoot at an' second the ones there are is real small. Besides, their nervous systems are so primitive ya' gotta' basically turn 'em inta' ground meat to kill 'em fast. Hell, it'll take 'im half a day to realize 'es been shot.

Sorry, friend, yer pistola's only gonna' piss 'im off, not save anybody.

7. Excuse me, could you reformulate that?
Preferably in English instead of some cod regional accent.

And what's with the use of the term "pistola"? Nobody I know who actually owns a handgun uses that term. Ever. It's only non-gun owners on internet fora who think they're being clever somehow.

8. Have you ever gone gator hunting?
Edited on Fri Oct-09-09 08:14 AM by aikoaiko
I haven't either, but plenty of gators get taken with a .357where I live. I will admit that .357 is a minimum round for the job though. I'm not saying that one shot will guarantee DRT, but a few shots can do the job on most gators.

At least it will "piss 'im off" let the person go.

And it isn't just me who thinks .357 is the minimum adequate to do the job: http://www.provostadventures.com/Alligator.htm

eta: Now that I think about it, it might be better to stuff a .308 20" rifle in the golf bag instead.

11.  Perhaps a "pistola" isn't enough.
Might be a pistol grip Mossy pump, loaded with slugs and buckshot would be better. You can always put on of them cute covers over the grip to conceal it.

12. Mare's legs make great BBQ and golf guns .....BUT !
Even if you score a CNS hit , it is going to perform a reflexive death roll while still clamped onto your junk . Some things you just dont want to tangle with .

And fit in a golf bag. ;-)
