Houston police officer shoots burglary suspect
Edited on Tue Dec-22-09 10:38 PM by oneshooter
HOUSTON—A Houston police officer shot a burglary suspect overnight.

Investigators said the suspect, who has yet to be identified by police, was in critical condition at Ben Taub Tuesday morning.

This all happened just after 10:30 p.m. Monday outside a home near the intersection of King and Winchell Streets in north Houston.

Police said it began with a phone call to 911. The homeowner returned to find a light on inside his house. Instead of going inside, he called police

Two officers arrived moments later. One officer ran to the back of the home. That’s where police said he discovered 3 burglary suspects jumping out of the back window. Investigators said one of those suspects drew a gun and pointed it at the officer. The officer then pulled his own weapon and opened fire.

"So the officer in the front of the house met the suspect on the side of the house. He again identified himself as a police officer," said HPD spokesperson Jodi Silva. "The suspect turned towards him with a weapon, so the officer, in fear of his safety, discharged his weapon striking the suspect one time."

Homeowner finds house not as he left it, calls Police, goblins make SERIOUS mistake. Police need more range time.

1. Police have a very dangerous occupation.
It's a good thing the cops didn't hesitate. Scary stuff.

2. Guns as solution to guns.
Provided, of course, that the perp's gun was not a plant or fabrication to justify the shooting.

If the perp was truly armed, then the gun emboldened the burglary.

Guns bad.

5. As long as the population has guns, the police need guns.
Guns as solution to guns.

6. Wrong again. Guns are often the solution to violent criminals.

11. Trust me, even if the population were totally disarmed...
...which isn't even possible, but even if it were, the police would still want guns, as you don't want to have to face a knife wielding maniac up close. So it's not guns as a solution to guns. It's guns as a solution to violent criminals who will still be violent and deadly even if they didn't have guns.

17. So why do police shoot
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 10:35 AM by armueller2001
at a criminal who is threatening them with a knife? or a club? Are you suggesting they should only pull their guns when the criminals have firearms as well?

You must be retarded.

It's called PEACE THROUGH SUPERIOR FIREPOWER.

If a criminal wants to break into my house and threaten my life and my families lives, I don't give a rat's ass if he has a knife, a club, a nunchuk, a throwing star, or if he has just his bare fists. When it comes to protecting my life and the lives of those I care about, I will use the most effective tool that will give me the best advantage toward anyone intent on harming us. I'm not going to go drop my gun and run into the kitchen to grab a knife just because that's what he has.

That being said, I would not shoot an intruder in my home simply for being there. I will, however, shoot if he moves toward me or if I see a gun.

21. If you wait to see his gun, you first sight of it may be as he fires it at you.
And that could also be your last sight.

7. The entire substance of everything you have ever said on the subject,
spoken with the appropriate level of linguistic sophistication. Why not save time and restrict your posts to those two words?

Guns bad.

16. Your first reaction is to suggest that the police planted the gun.
Because we all know that burglars are all strict pacifists. /sarcasm

FWIW - In that type of situation, an officer who wanted to cover up a summary execution would not need to plant a gun. He would just say that the dead burglar made a hand move toward his trousers waist. It then becomes the silence of a dead burglar (Usually with a lengthy record) against a live policeperson.

Recently there was a news item about an officer who did shoot an unarmed burglar. The burglar had made a move the officer considered threatening at the really wrong time. The cause of death for the burglar was terminal stupidity.

20. "then the gun emboldened the burglary" that's just something that you made up

"Guns bad" -- guns are neither bad nor good. How they are used can be good or bad.
