Autopsy To Determine Cause Of Death Of Home Invader Blasted With Shotgun.

Home invader gunned down in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE — A man who showed up at the door of a Port St. Lucie home about 3 p.m. Friday forced his way into the residence and was shot dead by the homeowner, Port St. Lucie Police Department Information Officer Tom Nichols said.

Nichols said the home’s resident retreated to a bedroom and retrieved a shotgun after the intruder forced his way in and argued with him.

The two struggled with the gun and it discharged, striking the intruder in the upper torso, Nichols said.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy Saturday to determine the cause of death.


I realize that procedure has to be followed, no matter what the situation. But determining the cause of death of a guy who was shot in the chest with a shotgun at extremely close range seems to be rather obvious.

That poor resident has a huge mess in his home that he is going to have to clean up. Well, at least he is alive to clean it up.

4. There is a related story on the same story - this intruder had been at the home
previously and made threatening remarks anbd phone calls to residents.
He was also stupid or crazy enough to grab at a shotgun that was trained on him, ratther than leaving.

I'd be interested to see what drugs and alcohol will be found in his blood.

Evidently that neighborhood is recently plagued with crime, including the rape of a school girl.

One less asshole, and another great reason to own a shotgun.

9. If the original and related articles are correct...
The deceased had a beef with the shooter's dad over a woman and couldn't let it go. Ol' green eyes and outright stupidity win again. When a homeowner tells you to shove off, you do it or take what you get. In this case he got a load of shot. Since it's a proven fact that a dead man doesn't ever do much of anything else ever again, a very strong case could be made for simply backing off before the point of no return is reached.

16. Reminds me of a scene out of The X-Files.
A local mortician is starting the autopsy on a guy with a giant wooden stake in his chest. As he's running down the normal checklist, he notes into his tape recorder: "Cause of death... gee, that's a tough one."

17. Autopsy will determine many things around cause of death.
For instance, does the wound match the story of the survivor? Was the deceased shot at 1 foot, 10 feet, in the back, front, angle of the weapon, etc.

Evidence required to ascertain the veracity of the homeowner's story.

That kind of information can be seen with one glance at the corpse.

I will agree that the autopsy should be done. I just found the wording of the newspaper story to be funny.

19. I have.
It's a mess. Without careful study in the lab, it is not easy to ascertain if the damage matches the witnesses account. Point of entry and where the pellets traveled can show angle, and is not easily discovered from the outside. Range is probably easier to discover, at the crime scene, but will not be as accurate as lab analysis.
