Lincolnwood youth charged in Evanston shooting

A Lincolnwood boy was charged in connection with a shooting that left one person injured behind Evanston Township High School last week, officials said today.

The boy, whose age was not available, was charged as a juvenile with one count of aggravated battery with a fire arm and is expected to appear at the Cook County criminal court in Skokie on Feb. 17, Evanston police said in a press release.

The shooting happened on Friday at about 9 p.m. at the rear of the high school, 1600 Dodge Ave., police said. The victim was shot once in the abdomen and was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for the non-life threatening gun shot wound, according to police.

Police said the shooting occurred after the victim was approached by three people who he knew. A verbal dispute occurred which then lead to a physical altercation between the victim and the three people. One of the people then brandished a hand gun, shot the victim and the three fled the scene, police said.
