Support Is Growing For Openly Carrying Permitted Weapons (Connecticut) (Poll at link)
An eruption in a simmering dispute over gun rights occurred when James Goldberg, wearing camouflage clothing and a holstered — and licensed — pistol on his right hip, walked into a Chili's restaurant in upscale Glastonbury, where he intended to pay for a takeout order.

According to Goldberg, a college-educated, occupational safety engineer, a restaurant employee, concerned by the sight of an armed customer, called the town police department. A goggle-eyed luncheon crowd watched three officers roll up, confront Goldberg and handcuff him.

"What can we get him for?" Goldberg, 32, says one of the officers asked his colleagues.

The answer, as it turned out, was nothing.

A state Superior Court judge dismissed the breach of peace charge police ultimately filed against Goldberg, forcing law enforcement experts to concede that, absent extenuating circumstances, there is nothing in Connecticut law to prohibit licensed gun owners from conducting their lives visibly armed.

2. Why is that a problem?
Police walk around open carrying, do you have a problem with that?

Just curious

6. Not if you have some good arguments ...
that are based on fact and statistics. Every issue has valid points on both sides.

If however, you can't come up with any good arguments to support your position, perhaps you should consider that the people who support firearms are right and you are wrong.

At a minimum you could give up on useless drive by postings that do nothing to further discussion.

5. I really don't blame the Chili's employee for being concerned.
....considering some of the crazy stuff that goes on these days.

7. The people the employee needs to worry about ...
carry concealed and are not licensed to do so. They are called criminals.

9. When you compose a post there is a Smilies lookup table...
copy the code into your post and you can preview to see if it works.

For example the code for "toast" is toast with an : in front and back.

:toast:

12. "Support" is certainly growing...
Militia movement's heroes will be packing heat at rally on the Potomac

By Ann Gerhart
Washington Post Staff Writer

-Snip-

"Almond plans to have his pistol loaded and openly carried, his rifle unloaded and slung to the rear, a bandoleer of magazines containing ammunition draped over his polo-shirted shoulder. The Atlanta area real estate agent organized the rally because he is upset about health-care reform, climate control, bank bailouts, drug laws and what he sees as President Obama's insistence on and the Democratic Congress's capitulation to a "totalitarian socialism" that tramples individual rights."

14. Fortunately support is *not* growing for disingenous nonsense such as
yours ---- attempting to paint all gun rights proponents with that broad brush of yours.

Keep on flailing..........it's helping to sink gun "control".

17. No agenda here
but a substantial number of "gun rights activists" are members of armed militias. The idea that the 2nd Amendment gives ordinary citizens the "right" to threaten our government with violence is absurd. I would venture that getting all defensive and touchy about opposing views is keeping average people from agreeing with your legitimate advocacy positions.

I carried a weapon in a combat zone for many months, and actually shot back at people, so please don't treat me as if I am some meek-assed Liberal pussy. That I have no desire to open carry, or pursue a CCW permit as a civilian does not make me your enemy. I have many friends who are hunters, and we get along just fine.

P.S. I read this forum frequently -- mainly for the "macho" humor.

19. I'll accept your explanation that you have no agenda, and I realize that
pixels don't always convey the tone that the poster intended, but "a substantial number" is not the equivalent of "a substantial percentage" -- so your implication that many/most of those in support of open carry are militia members is unfair IMO.

For the record -- my state allows for open carry and I have no desire to do so either, so I certainly don't view you as my enemy. If I came across as treating you like "some meek-assed Liberal pussy" it wasn't intended -- it's just that we've become very familiar with those from the pro-reg side that slime via false association.

20. Actually, I wasn't
asking for either an apology, or your forgiveness. I posted a recent news article about a group who intend to use "open carry" as a threat, and as the article points out, these types of "super-patriots" are growing in number.

Those RW mouthpieces who use thinly-veiled calls for violence are responsible for their words and actions when they contribute to the hatred and divisions in this country. Those who are loudly and narrowly focused on any single agenda often give rise to unintended consequences, and the RKBA advocates must acknowledge that they give the militia skin-heads a seat at the table. I saw them in the military, I've seen them at otherwise peaceful demonstrations, and I see them in the MSM on a daily basis. Their numbers are growing as fast as the teabaggers.

To distance legitimate RKBA issues from 2A faux-patriot militias will take more than just slinging insults at anyone who attempts to point out the obvious.

Peace...;-)

21. Yes, absolutely -- I believe in peace.
It looks to me like we're in fundamental agreement. FWIW, I'm aware that you weren't asking for either an apology or forgiveness.

Peace........out.

15. Nice try. Too bad there's no indication he's from Connecticut.
Kind of reminds me how the RW used to connect every antiwar protest with the Socialist Worker's Party...

18. Meant to mention that the police chief of this community deserves a good
dressing down for his failure to inform his officers of the law. With all of the news lately surrounding open carry any chimp could have figured out that it was only a matter of time before the issue would come up in Conn.

You can find memos to officers online --- in the community where I live the police chief issued a statement to his officers the moment open carry started gaining momentum.
