Republican Bloomberg's gun show bill.
Bloomberg is at it again, he was on CNN, lieing right through his teeth. He KNOW full well, that a FFL, cannot go to a gun show, and sell guns without NICS checks. O well, Most of us, KNOW that Republicans lie.

http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/us/2010/04/20/am.interview.bloomberg.cnn

Just in case you think the threat isn't serious, here is what is in
store for America if the Mayor gets his way in Congress:

* Details of the sale, such as the type of gun, the SERIAL NUMBER,
and any other information the Attorney General may want must be
provided for guns sold by private sellers

* Any person selling a gun, be it just walking around with a gun, or
having purchased a table to sell a gun, must be registered with the
gun show AT LEAST 30 DAYS BEFORE the show and the gun show must
provide PERSONAL INFORMATION about each private seller to the Attorney
General

* Private sellers must show photo ID to the gun show operator and
sign a log book with personal information

* The feds will now have TRUE GUN REGISTRATION information in a
database - Think about that, next time we have a GWB as president...

* If you make a mistake in all of this, you can get up to FIVE YEARS
in prison. The gun show operator also can be put in prison for
paperwork mistakes

* Gun show operators will have to register with the U.S. Attorney
General

* The Attorney General can make up regulations at will for
controlling gun show operators

* The Attorney General can charge a fee, no limit set, for a gun show
operator license

* Gun shows must get permission from the Attorney General 30 days in
advance of any show to be able to have a show

* All sales must go the the National Instant Check System

A barrage of ads and commercials is starting immediately, attempting
to push Congress to pass this legislation!

The full bill can be seen here:

6. Let's try this one more time
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 12:59 AM by DainBramaged
Just in case you think the threat isn't serious

If YOU think this is a serious threat of ANY kind, maybe it's time to put your guns down and find something else to do. I am amazed how thous of you who think gun rights trump all other rights can worry that States rights trump your right to keep that piece of steel near and dear to you.

Our duly elected American citizen President has NOT tried to take your guns or even brought up the idea of taking your guns, so if this is a threat and you need to burn up the phone lines to stop it, I suggest that maybe your time would be better spent.

7. The thing is, Bloomberg has a habit of trying to use his personal wealth
to push his personal take on firearms in America on every other locale that will give him teh time of day. He actively tries to export the very much extreme policies on firearms that his city has to the entire rest of the country, where they have been judged on their own merits and found to be sorely lacking.

I don't think the OP is concerned that he has any chance of getting more than the Brady Campaign's 8K Facebook fans to take him seriously, but the problem is the deception that he is intentionally using in bringing up the "gun show loophole", which is nothing more than the right of American citizens to sell their private property. The point is that, despite his monumental leaps of logic, lies, one fifth-truths, and the fact that no one takes his side seriously except the few remaining he has financed, we still have to take the time to mentally, logically, rationally thrash him for his dishonesty in a public forum.

I agree about President Obama, he has done a fantastic job overall, there have been little things here and there that he has realized are not as practical in the real world, not gun related, and he has truly taken to heart that now that he is a NATIONAL leader, and not a Chicago Senator anymore, he has to operate on national interests, not local ones.

Gun prohibition is a darling of Chicago, but nationally, is very much a failure. It doesn't help crime rates, it doesn't help murder rates, it doesn't prevent accidents, and it does infringe on the rights of U.S. citizens.

8. Gun shows are a sham. There are dozens of examples where a person selling ANYTHING
to any other person at any type of 'show' is required to register in case there is any type of claim for defect or damage thereafter. Don't tell me guns should be excluded from this as if they should have NO controls at all? You have got to be kidding me. And just like most gun proponents, it's OK to get a driver's license, a boat license, a marriage license but a gun license either to buy or sell, oh no no no that isn't in the Constitution and that is private property oh no no that's none of anyone's business.

One of these days we'll win.

19. On which rights of yours are any of the gun owners on this forum infringing?
How am I, to paraphrase Jefferson, picking your pocket or breaking your leg by the act of owning a firearm, or even carrying it in public? It's illegal for me to "to carry, exhibit, display, or draw" a firearm "in a manner <...> that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons" (gross misdemeanor in the state of Washington, http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.270); it's illegal for me to aim a firearm at another (gross misdemeanor, http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.230); it's illegal for me assault or kill you, or cause damage to your property, using a firearm; it's illegal for me to knowingly transfer ownership of a firearm to a person prohibited from possessing one (e.g. someone with a felony conviction, a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction, has been adjudicated mentally deficient, or is under a restraining/protection order concerning an intimate partner or child); and it's certainly illegal for me to assault, rob or (try to) kill you.

So exactly which rights of your am I infringing upon? Bear in mind you don't have a right to feel safe, and you don't have a right not to be offended.

14. Let's try this again without having MY rights infringed on
You should mind your own business instead of trying to tell those of us who disagree that we're on the wrong side of an issue. This isn't a civil rights issue. Civil rights are the right of people in love to marry. Civil rights are the rights of ALL people to be treated equally, not just gun owners.

Civil rights include the ensuring of peoples' physical integrity and safety; protection from discrimination on grounds such as physical or mental disability, gender, religion, race, sexual orientation, national origin, age, immigrant status, etc; and individual rights such as the freedoms of thought and conscience, speech and expression, religion, the press, and movement.

If you think that spoiled gun owners who want their way in every corner of the country is a civil rights issue, you need to brush up on civil rights.

And maybe you need to stop infringing on my rights.

Because of that erroneous way of thinking, I somehow believed that the rights protected by that bill WERE civil rights. Thank you for correcting me and showing me that only the rights YOU like are civil rights, and the remainder are free to be disregarded.

What happens if I don't approve of some of the rights YOU hold dear?

Showing the world how powerful you are because you can carry a gun? You were granted the right you hold dear because a supine Supreme Court, an activist Conservative Supreme court that thinks you are akin to a militia just can't let that gun go. The day will come when the Court swings back to a more Liberal bent and your supposed right to intimidate others with your guns will be diminished.

And not one of you will stand up and fire a shot. Not one.

Not by a long shot. They are very handy tools for dealing with some problems, though. Short of a printing press, or it's modern day equivalent, I can't think of a tool that has done more to allow the common man to seize control of his own fate.

Keeping and bearing arms is a civil right. It's an important right. That's why it made #2 on the Founding Father's Top Ten.

It's not their job or problem. You're on your own until such a time as they have someone available to lend a hand. You can buy a copy of the report from them the next day for a few bucks, though.

Oh, and "defending" against Indians? I'm not sure you understand which side was actually on the offensive. The day the State declares open season on your family because of the color of their skin get back with me. And guess what governmental organization was doing most of the killing?

Keep trying it will come to you some day. And if you who are so paranoid think the state is going to declare open season on me and my family (and yourselves), why not move to another country more secure? England? France? Italy? Australia? Spain? That should solve your problem.

And as I've said before, not one of you will ever fie a shot not one. The pants you wear will become brown and yellow, and the PAID militia which you all love to imitate and play pretend in the woods like you belong will stare you down like deer.

have you ever had a shot fired at you? Probably not so dont equate what you would do in your pants to the rest of us. A hell of a lot of us are combat veterans and know what its like to be shot at. I sure as hell remember being scared during intense firefights but not once did I have my fatigues become "brown and yellow". People like you just love to sit around and judge other people but I suspect all your doing is judging yourself.

BTW, In my 35 years in the Fire Service not once did I ever stain my Turnouts "brown and yellow"

43. Well, we weren't communicating before, as I just said
that was what I was trying to do, to draw you into an actual discussion, instead of just having you post about my love of steel, my neglect of family, of the warmth of flesh, claiming that guns are more important to me than life itself, when not one thing I said supported any of those bizarre assertions.

So if you'd like to have a discussion, there is an electric universe of space to have it in, with all the audience either one of us could ever want and more. at least not in an informative fasion.

You have failed to address a single question or point put to you, and have freely scattered insult, innuendo, deprecation and defamation throughout your posts.

Chimps flinging poo. And I thought that was the Republicans job.

And my wife can be found in the firing lane to my side. She's the one with the shotgun, and she's a better shot than I am.

42. Did you hear about Ashtabula County in Ohio ...
where a judge advised residents to purchase firearms for self protection...

Ashtabula judge says people may want to arm themselves since budget cuts have slashed law enforcement
By Sandra Livingston, The Plain Dealer
April 19, 2010, 4:00AM

Debbie White, who owns a tree farm in rural Ashtabula County, says she keeps her double-barrel shotgun for protection, given that the county's Sheriff's Office is stretched thin.

ASHTABULA, Ohio -- Budget cuts have whacked Ashtabula County so hard that just one sheriff's cruiser now patrols 720 square miles, raising a troubling question: Who will protect residents of this sprawling, rural Northeast Ohio county when sheriff's deputies are miles away?

A county judge has a suggestion: Concerned people may want to arm themselves.

"We are living in a large county, and you cannot count on the availability of your sheriff to come to your home if you are in danger in a prompt manner," Ashtabula County Common Pleas Judge Alfred Mackey said after his comments were broadcast in a television news interview.

The judge said he's not advocating a Wild West mentality and stressed that anyone who wants a gun's protection also has a responsibility to keep it safe and to know how to use it.

Such comments, coming from a judge, touched off a round of debates over guns and safety in a county with a proud self-reliant streak and a sense that something is terribly wrong when government can't adequately keep its residents safe from the bad guys.

Some people applauded Mackey for bravely facing the truth that deputies could be at a violent scene in one corner of Ohio's largest county when an intruder breaks into a farmhouse more than 40 minutes away.

Others found his remarks disconcerting -- either because they don't believe guns are a good answer, they worry that ill-prepared people will use them or they fear all the talk about reduced safety forces will draw more criminals to their rural towns.

As for the army, there is this little problem ...

The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385) passed on June 18, 1878, after the end of Reconstruction, with the intention (in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807) of substantially limiting the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement. The Act prohibits most members of the federal uniformed services (today the Army, Navy, Air Force, and State National Guard forces when such are called into federal service) from exercising nominally state law enforcement, police, or peace officer powers that maintain "law and order" on non-federal property (states and their counties and municipal divisions) within the United States.

The statute generally prohibits federal military personnel and units of the National Guard under federal authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States, except where expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress. The Coast Guard is exempt from the Act during peacetime.

Considering the economic situation, other police forces may have to reduce their forces, leaving more citizens unprotected.

Somehow I don't think that your reassurances hold much water, especially for citizens in Ashtabula County.

which is one of the poorest counties in the U.S. and the poorest county in Florida, many people hunt for sustenance. Feral hogs are plentiful and are considered a pest but taste good and can be hunted all year. Deer are also numerous and a large percentage of the population hunt them during the season.

You remember those 'outmoded' ideas like habeas corpus, the right to a fair trial, the right to counsel, the right
not to be forced to testify against yourself, the ban on cruel and unusual punishment, the requirement for probable cause.

Stuff we don't need anymore, amirite?

Great minds think alike...

Violence tyranny can take many forms and the 2nd amendment ensures the people have the means to live in a free State.

Virtually NONE of you appear outside of the gun forum. Why/ Because your self-centered focus on guns prevents you from understanding the reality of the world around you.

I have told you this before, If you don't like my posts, simply click the red X and you can go back to back-slapping your buddies when you perceive a gun victory. Here in America of course. The rest of the world is not as stupid and immersed in gun culture as is this country, and neither do they suffer the crime.

Like I said, your choice, move or stop spreading paranoia.

It sounds like you would like to live in Europe. Why not move to Europe or Japan and make some cars - if they'd have you.

I figure one of these days, you'll blow a gasket. Its almost happened a couple of times from what I've seen.

83. No one can 100% guarantee that registered guns will not be confiscated. The scorpion & turtle tale
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 10:05 PM by jody
is the perfect analogy where some who oppose RKBA are scorpions.
A scorpion, being a very poor swimmer, asked a turtle to carry him on his back across a river. "Are you Scorpion mad?" exclaimed the turtle. "You'll sting me while I'm swimming and I'll drown."

"My dear turtle," laughed the scorpion, "if I were to sting you, you would drown and I would go down with you. Now where is the logic in that?"

"You're right!" cried the turtle. "Hop on!" The scorpion climbed aboard and halfway across the river gave the turtle a mighty sting. As they both sank to the bottom, the turtle resignedly said:

"Do you mind if I ask you something? You said there'd be no logic in your stinging me. Why did you do it?"

"It has nothing to do with logic," the drowning scorpion sadly replied. "It's just my character."
