Ohio sheriff pulls gun permit of man in NC arrest (had handgun, asked to see Obama)
COLUMBUS, Ohio – An Ohio sheriff suspended the concealed weapons permit of an armed man who authorities say told them he wanted to see the president in North Carolina, and a report given to The Associated Press said the sheriff's office recently lectured the man about proper gun handling.

Coshocton County Sheriff Tim Rogers cited Joseph Sean McVey's arrest Sunday for the permit suspension. He described his action as a suspension pending the outcome of the North Carolina investigation.

McVey had a handgun at his side when he was spotted by police in an Asheville Regional Airport parking lot Sunday just after Air Force One departed, police said. His car was loaded with police equipment, including a siren and lights, and had a note with formulas used for firing a rifle with a scope, authorities said.

McVey, whose mother lives in Asheville, was released Tuesday under a $100,000 secured bond on a misdemeanor charge of going armed in terror of the public. Rogers sent the letter to McVey at the Buncombe County, N.C., jail Monday.

18. Duhhhh, the owner or administrator of a property or facility can decide
To or not to allow guns. RKBA involves true public spaces and private property but like I wrote above the property owner can decide if guests can bring guns or not.

The parking lot is quite a distance from the runway or aircraft parking areas. The bozo in question sounds like some kinda cop-wannabe with his lights, antennas, and his membership in a volunteer group that helps police and firefighters, but isn't your characterization "he wanted to see the president in North Carolina" a little over the top? You sound like you caught him scouting out a grassy knoll.

It would be a whole lot different if they had stopped him at the bottom of the airstair, or even on the operational area of the airport, not a mile away. Doubtlessly, he is, at least, eccentric, and might possibly even be dangerous, but the facts are pretty skimpy.

So far the authorities in both North Carolina and Ohio are responding to the situation prudently and professionally. I am going to reserve judgment until I see what comes of their efforts.

7. My characterization? I didn't write the article. I posted the article.
A man with a gun wanted to see Obama.

See that? I wrote that just now.

Either he was incredibly stupid or had something conspiratorial in mind.

There is nothing else it could be and he was a legal gun owner.

Or at least he was.

9. That's NOT what you wrote in your subject line.
"Ohio sheriff pulls gun permit of man in NC arrest (had handgun, asked to see Obama)"

The article said, "A man with a gun wanted to see Obama."

Again YOU WROTE: "Ohio sheriff pulls gun permit of man in NC arrest (had handgun, asked to see Obama)"

Just who did he ask to take him to see the President?

You deny were trying to put a little 'spin' on that?

We go from a cop curious why there's a geeky guy with lights, antennas, and out of state plates in the airport parking lot asking, "Who are you and why are you here?" and spotting a pistol to a "Guy with a gun demanding to see the President."

Did you confuse this guy.........

with this guy?

We all saw the first guy bring down a 747 with a Zippo. For all we know, the second guy just wanted to see Air Force One take off, and if he was no closer than the parking lot, it's unlikely, unless he was driving a ZSU-57-2 or an SA-6, he was a credible threat.

13. You said that I said, 'he wanted to see the president in North Carolina.'
You were not talking about the subject line in your original response.

But, hey. I'll give you that one. He did not 'ask' to see Obama.

But he was a man with a handgun who wanted to see Obama.

Better?

Now who in their right mind (or with something else in mind) would want to see a President while carrying a handgun?

Don't answer. I'm sure you think that approaching an area where the President is with a handgun is just perfectly normal.

Goodbye.

14. Ayers Kaserne, 27 July 1975
I was fortunate enough to shake hands with one President of the United States. If he was concerned that all our vehicles were fully combat loaded, he didn't mention it. He certainly looked inside our tank there and saw all the weapons and ammunition.

The Secret Service did about have apoplexy however, when the German tank crew from our sister unit asked him if he'd like a beer, and being a good German tank crew, the loader produced a cold Tücker from the turret.

As to the moron in Asheville, he is demonstrably stupid. So far that does not equate to dangerous. As to Atlanta, if jumping to conclusions were an Olympic event, you get the 'Gold'!

8. So his CCW permit is suspended pending investigation; so what?
What's so special about that? Given that the law prohibits someone who is under investigation for a criminal offense, or awaiting trial or sentencing for same to possess a firearm, suspending (note: not revoking, suspending) his license until charges are dropped or he's either acquitted or convicted (in the latter case, his permit would presumably be revoked) seems an uncontroversial precautionary measure.

It sure as hell doesn't indicate he's guilty of anything; in fact, the Coshocton Co. Sheriff's Office explicitly states it was a suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.

17. Mall ninja saves planet - the update
Whodathunk what you so breathlessly infer had to be the greatest right-wing killing machine since Jason Bourne would turn out to be some harmless geek parked over a mile away from the runway in a clapped out maroon Pontiac, equipped with a conspicuous array of obsolete radio equipment. Turns out simply wearing a pistol in a holster did not support the misdemeanor charge of going armed in terror of the public. (Maybe if they had a charged him with getting shorts in a wad in Atlanta.....)

August 2010 Ashville, NC

Joseph Sean McVey, 23, of Coshocton, Ohio, has been found guilty of violating an ordinance prohibiting firearms on city property and possessing a siren.

McVey had already served three days in jail and was sentenced to the time served.

19. After researching a bit
I found out this guy has a history of community volunteer work and volunteered with the police department. He probably learned his lession and will now stop his volunteer work, will develop a mistrust and hate for the government. They should have taken him away from the scene and told him he can't volunteer there on that day.
