FBI agent guilty of gun dealing - El Paso Times
EL PASO -- Jurors took less than three hours Wednesday to convict an FBI agent of six counts of dealing weapons without a permit and lying to federal agents about the sales.

John Thomas Shipley, 40, could lose his career and land in prison when he is sentenced July 8.

Agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested Shipley last year after they traced a .50-caliber rifle used in a cartel-related shootout in Chihuahua, Mexico, back to him.

Prosecutors said he bought at least 54 weapons, then sold 51 of them for more than $118,000 between January 2005 and May 2008.

They also accused Shipley of keeping two sets of records. One accurately reflected each of his gun dealings, but another that Shipley turned over to ATF agents lacked pertinent information such as driver's license numbers....

The article is not clear about what kind of records it is referring to.

1. No "gun show loophole" bill would have stopped this kind of corruption
I don't think this isn't the first time FBI agents have been caught trafficking guns across the border.

2. You mean to tell me
that greedy people will always do whatever they can, even break whatever laws we pass, to make as much money as they can?

But but but a bill to close a loop hole that exsists only in my head would make everyone FEEL so much better!

(I'll add the :sarcasm: tag just so we're clear)

3. An FBI son
Was the source of the illegal handgun that columnist Carl Rowan used in 1988 to shoot an unarmed youth skinny-dipping in his swimming pool.

Carl Rowan wrote in a 1981 column, "We must reverse this psychology (of needing guns for home defense). We can do it by passing a law that says anyone found in possession of a handgun except a legitimate officer of the law goes to jail- period!"

After his five-minute arraignment in D.C. Superior Court on unregistered gun and ammunition charges, Rowan blasted District officials for "water-drop torture" legal tactics, including a six-week delay in pressing charges, and blamed various media for describing him as "Bernhard Goetz," "Rambo" and the "Jacuzzi Vigilante." Hypocrisy is all ways better when coupled with righteous indignation.
