15 year old, uses automatic rifle to defend himself, and little sister from multiple home invaders
From upstairs, the 15-year-old — who was home with his 12-year-old sister — heard the breaking glass and grabbed his father's automatic rifle. "The burglary was soon over."

Use of a "So Called" assault rifle, by a MINOR, in self defense, of life, and family..

Great Video at website!

30. "Snuff" implies corpses, and so far, nobody involved has died
And as far as I'm concerned, the most important thing is that no occupants of the burglarized house were hurt.

May I note that I find it odd that you apparently reserve your characterization for a self-defense story, rather than apply it to any of the numerous unlawful shooting stories that get posted here?

7. I too am glad it worked out.
I much prefer the stories on the news where the good guys win. I also found this legal theory to be interesting from the article:

but ABC13's legal expert says that the 15-year-old's right to protect his home and sister trumps all child firearm access laws.

"Officer Bill Evans was shot 14 times, Sergeant Brandon Paudert 11 times. The weapon of choice, the AK-47, isn't as uncommon as you would think when it comes to officers being killed in the line of duty. 16-year old Joe Kane shot West Memphis Police officer Bill Evans 14 times and Sgt. Brandon Paudert 11 times May 20th during a traffic stop on I-40. Sources told FOX13 Thursday Kane shot the two officers using an AK-47, a weapon that has become extremely popular.

AK-47 has now replaced the 223 as the weapon that kills police officers the most," said Southaven Police Chief Tom Long. "This has only come about in the last 10 years, and we're seeing many more of these guns now... "

The "BAD" is all over the news...The good, use of guns is seldom reported....

If the 15 year old, had used that rifle, to shoot three in cold blood, it would be national headlines.. But because he used it to protect his home, and little sister, it is "local news"

It does not fit "MSM" mold, of what gun use "IS", and thusly, it is not widely reported.

So we report it HERE.

between you and I is that I DON'T turn my back on the bad. I DON'T walk through life with blinders. I own guns, I love to shoot. I also know we have a problem in this country. You want me on your team? Start addressing the dangers instead of banging the NRA drum. Stop with the "THEY WANT OUR GUNS CRAP!" Offer ways to get guns from the hands of those who would do harm. STOP with the snuff posts. You guys use blood to prove guns are useful, see how stupid that is?

Stop with that silliness and maybe the DU gun forum can become something. What is a "good" shooting anyway? Is it when a teenage boy, a son, a brother, a child, gets shot climbing in a window for an XBOX dies? Sure a petty criminal is now dead, the shooter was defending his or her home. Is the story less bloody for the victim's family? Blood to prove a firearm's usefulness, just plain stupid.

24. They are looking for " the danger " in Tampa this very AM
With any luck at all , this story will culminate with yet another good shooting .

It would seem that one of the unfortunate victims of the inequities of income distribution and racism killed two cops . I can only assume he was stealing bread , blankets , or perhaps some dime store glasses so that his child might see the blackboard . It's all about the dangers , but never the actors . This actor , a one Mr. Dontae Rashawn Morris , 24 , had accumulated 43 previous felony arrests in his brief time on Earth , and as of this afternoon a 100,000 dollar price on his head .

Too many times
...a teenage boy, a son, a brother, a child,...
doesn't care to stop with making off with an Xbox and decides to add assault, rape, and/or murder to his repetoire. There've been more than enough links posted here to accounts of such crimes for you to pretend they don't happen.

There is no way in hell that I will ever accept that someone in their home must rely upon the doubtful mercy of some violent
felon because someone else feels bad for the little snowflakes.

And BTW:

The victims in such cases are the people forced to employ deadly force to defend themselves, not the 'alternative shoppers'.

Don't you have some police records in Moscow, Idaho to look up for us?

36. Reasonable.
You want me on your team? ...... Offer ways to get guns from the hands of those who would do harm.

Pretty simple, actually. Use a gun in a crime and you're locked up. forever. First time.
if you are a felon or under a restraining order for threatening someone and you are arrested with a gun in your posession you go away. Forever. If we 'merely' eliminated recividism we'd eliminate most of the violent crime, gun and other.

My view is this: if I were to have to shoot a burgler or home invader, I would. But I sure as hell hope I don't have to. I don't 'get off' on a Rambo urge any more than I would want to have to evacuate my house because of a disaster or donate a kidney to someone; it's only because the alternative is more horrific, and in *MY* judgement, someone who would violate my property shall be assumed to be ready, willing and able to take my life or that of my family members.
And I would regard that person as, in the end, at least partly a victim of the failures of a society that rewards CEOs of vicious and unethical corporations well but criminalizes poverty and uses the misfortunate as cannon fodder and/or a bludgeon to remind the 'middle class' of what their fate will be if they oppose the corporate overlords.

Respectfully

51. Rifles of ALL types make up less than 3% of homicides...
And AK-47 clones, AR-15s, etc. are just one type of rifle.

It IS uncommon.

Why not join up with an anti-drug war organization (as I have done) to end the W.O.D.? In this way, the cartels will be weakened, and will have less need for firearms. If we wait too long, the cartels will branch out too deeply into non-drug-related activities (even anti-government guerrilla activities) and they will be more difficult to deal with. As it is, once you have a powerful, nearly immune smuggling system, you can move most anything through it.

I would suggest that full-auto weapons and grenades (the most sought-after weapons for the cartels) are coming from the U.S. -- via the Mexican military through corruption and Iraq-style bombings of military vehicles.

the wrong end of a defensive gun use-stay the fuck out of other people's homes, don't try to rob convenience stores, and refrain from other anti-social behavior. I'm sure your kid was a good boy, and I'm sure he was going to cure cancer when he got off probation, but maybe, juuuust maybe, you should have taught him that breaking in to other people's houses is a fantastic way to catch Uncle Chuck's attention..

and uninterested in learning.

It's hard to trust anything published by the main street media on any complicated subject. Firearms are extremely simple and just a little research will educate a person on the subject. The economy, the oil spill or the war in Afghanistan are extremely complicated subjects.

45. Some facts about children and guns
http://www.gunfacts.info/pdfs/gun-facts/5.1/gun-facts-5.1-screen.pdf

Myth: 13 children are killed each day by guns

Fact: Adults included – This “statistic” includes “children” up to age 19 or 24, depending on the source. Most violent crime is committed by males ages 16-24, these numbers end up including adult gang members dying during criminal activity. The proper definition of ‘child’ is a person between birth and puberty (typically 13-14 years old).

Fact: Criminals are included - 70% of these deaths are juveniles or adults, ages 17 to 20, during gang warfare. Half of the juveniles killed are involved in gang activity at the time of their deaths: often drug related firefights.

Fact: Suicides and criminals included - These numbers include criminal activities and suicides. As suicides make up more than ½ of all gun deaths, the number children killed could drop even further, to about 1.3 a day.

Fact: The federal government lists the total firearm related deaths for children were 612, or 1.7 per day, in 1998. 154 were suicides

Fact: Over 13 teenagers die every day in automobiles, seven behind the wheel.

Fact: Four children die each day in the U.S. from parental neglect and abuse.

Fact: For contrast: 1,917 children die each day from malaria around the world and 15 men, women, and children per day are murdered by a convicted felon in government supervised parole/probation programs in the U.S.

I wonder if our correspondent is working just as hard to ban backyard swimming pools and make water safety classes mandatory,
as drowning kills more children in the US than guns do.
