Sacramento County Sheriff May Consider more CCW permiting
http://www.kcra.com/news/19758319/detail.html

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Faced with the potential loss of 300 deputies due to budget cuts, the Sacramento County sheriff may consider issuing more concealed weapons permits.

Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinness said at a public budget workshop in May that if the cuts happen, people would wait "long, long periods of time for the most basic public safety services, specifically uniformed officers in the field."

Its always seems to come down to money .And how ironic that a LEO chief will now allow law abiding citizens to arm themselves for protection in order to coerce money from the state . Irony isn't the right word , its damned ghastly ,that's what it is .

5. From the article
"Currently, only about 260 people in Sacramento County carry concealed weapons and their required permits."

"I have to be open to the potential that there will be more people in need of the ability to protect themselves as individuals,” McGinness said...."

However, some of the comments suggested that the sheriff's new-found willingness to issue concealed carry permits may just be a ploy to scare county supervisors into not cutting his budget, under the apparent assumption that whatever else might have to be done to tighten the county's belt would be better than allowing residents to keep and bear arms. As California continues down the path of Utopian epic fail, expect to see more of the theme of "gimme money or I'll issue concealed carry permits," but we'll see how many permits actually get issued as deeper fiscal problems necessitate law enforcement budget cuts.

"Supervisors are looking at possibly cutting other departments in other to restore cuts that could affect the sheriff's department. A final vote is expected either Wednesday or Thursday."

ie, I'll tweak their nose if they cut my budget.

4. shall issue?
I understand Californians by and large seem to have a huge fear of inanimate objects (at least based on the gun laws out there), but when will they become a state that's willing to grant any person that can pass all the background checks the right to defend himself/herself?
