Suspect shot by elderly vet charged
The Pulteney homeowner, Stephen Boyechko – an 80-year-old who fought with the Ukrainian underground against the Germans and Russians during World War II – told The Leader he was napping with his wife the evening of Aug. 20 when he was awakened by the sound of breaking glass and found Peterson crawling through his bathroom window of his isolated rural home.

Boyechko grabbed his registered handgun and went to confront the intruder. He said Peterson rushed him, and he shot him in the abdomen and groin, then called 911. The two men waited in silence for police to arrive, and Peterson was later airlifted to the hospital.

Peterson was arrested upon his release from Rochester’s Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was being treated for gunshot wounds while under police guard.

I wonder how long it took police to show up. Must be really out in the sticks if the air lifted the burglar.

2. He came in through the bathroom window.
I wonder if the accused will be using any sort of conventional bathroom facility, now.

3. Does not count for anything...
The real question is how many mass shootings has the guy stopped with his so-called "registered handgun"?

5. Why does it have to be a mass shooting?
I'll bet his handgun has committed no mass shootings either.

6. Because, the stopping of a mass shooting is the only reason you could possibly have to possess a
handgun... If your sole purpose is not to use it to prevent or stop a mass shooting, then you are a detriment to society by possessing it.

7. But-but-but...
no non-LEO has ever stopped a mass-shooting with a handgun! Because I say so!

If I have to use the sarcasm icon, you haven't been paying attention.

10. I guess I'm an apprentice-elderly - I'm only 63 - but I am a veteran, too.
I applaud Mr. Boyechko and his courage and determination to not be victimized.
Many people think the old are easy targets.
There is one guy now who knows better.
