East Haven, Conn. mayor April Capone Almon donates kidney to constituent

A Connecticut mayor is giving new meaning to being Facebook friends.

East Haven mayor April Capone Almon donated a kidney to a constituent through the social-networking site.

Almon, 35, underwent surgery two weeks ago and is back at work. The recipient was a local man named Carlos Sanchez, 44-year-old father with diabetes. The two knew each other casually and were friends on Facebook. Preparing to go on dialysis, Sanchez sent a desperate plea through his Facebook page after friends and family members failed to match.

Almon, who took office last January, sent him a message.

"I thought she was joking. The mayor of East Haven would offer me her kidney?" Sanchez said. "She responded back and said, 'I am serious, I am willing to get tested.'"
Sanchez is recovering at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Even if it protects ONE CHILD, it is worth it, from all the widespread crime this bunch brings.

I'd point out that James Michael Curley, one of the most corrupt politicians in American history, was known to have been entirely

faithful to both of his spouses- something that a lot of good progressives can't seem to manage.


Some people who may be very nice in person may not be so nice in their official capacities....

Only possible negative I find is this questionable (politically motivatived?) charge of interfering with a police officer.


Police Chief Wants Mayor Arrested for Tow Incident
On July 19, East Haven Mayor April Capone-Almon stepped in and stopped a police officer from towing cars off of an unmarked parking lot near the splash pad at Cosey Beach, police said.

Now, the East Haven Police Chief is trying to get an arrest warrant against her for interfering with police. Chief Leonard Gallo filed the paperwork Monday and the application has been sent to the States Attorney Michael Dearington's office for review. The warrant has not been signed, Dearington said.

She also pointed to a memorandum written Gallo wrote on June 12 and sent out to all police personnel. In it, he instructs police to tag but not tow cars from the town beach lots.

"This was the chief’s directive based on a conversation that we had had together, earlier in the season,” she said. “He asked me what my wishes were for the parking lots and I explained it to him and he crafted that memo."

but the ethics violation complaint appears to have been dismissed recently.

0 for 2, no convictions, therefore innocent/not a crook in my book.

Mayor Gordon Jenkins, of Monticello NY, has been charged with possessing counterfeit-trademarked goods, fraudulent sales tax returns, and possession of pot. Jenkins is a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
