ZOMG!!! In California? Really?
I would have never thought.

"Law-abiding Sacramento County residents may now successfully apply for permits to carry handguns by asserting self-defense as a basis for carry permit issuance.A one-year residency requirement has been eliminated, as has policy language that tied self-defense to arbitrary geographic factors."

"other counties still fail to recognize that self-defense is a legally sufficient reason for issuance of a handgun carry permit. The Sheriff's(Sheriff Prieto) written policy states that "self protection and protection of family (without credible threats of violence)" are insufficient reasons to exercise Second Amendment rights."

:applause: to Sheriff John McGinness

12. Yep -- and San Diego might be next with the Peruta case.

Edited to note that Yolo County would more likely be the next CA county to go shall-issue.

19. That's what you get with "executive discretion"
When you leave up to a member of the executive branch of government to decide, at his "discretion," who is or is not eligible for a license, you in effect confer upon that person the powers of the legislative and judiciary branches as well.

11. The proper "justification" SHOULD be...

"Because it's a Civil Right and I damn well want to and it's none of your fucking business."

But somehow, "may issue" places tend to take offense to any rejection of their "authoritay".....

15. Funny how I found the article.
I was not Googling any news stories or even looking for anything on the topic of firearms.

I was looking for a specific Kegerator for a specific type of beer for my basement remodel.

There was a company that I remember being in Sacremento from when I used to live there.

I spelled the beer name wrong... Ginness vs. Guinness in Google.

Bad news... Kegerator company = no longer in business.
Good news... Sac County is now accepting self defense as an affermative reason for issuing a permit.
Good news... I found another company that sells the Kegerator.
Good news... The Kegerator was in stock and is shipping out tonight.
Good news... They also sell dancer poles.
Bad news... Wife said no to the dancer pole.
Good news... They are in NY and it will only take 2 days to ship.
Good news... I will have Guiness on tap at my place within 1 1/2 weeks.

Overall it was a good day.

14. Not sure that McGinness deserves too many kudos.......

"Even though the Sheriff is retiring at the end of the year, both candidates to replace Sheriff McGinness have publicly stated their support for Second Amendment rights and that they consider self-defense a compelling reason for issuance of gun carry permit.”

I think the sheriff saw the writing on the wall and didn't want to waste taxpayer dollars on a dog of a case. Just speculation, I admit.
