Police Say Colorado Man Who Woke Up To A 'bang' Likely Shot Himself While Sleepwalking

(AP) BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Police said a Boulder man who told police he woke up to a "bang" and realized he suffered a gunshot wound to his knee likely shot himself while sleepwalking. The Daily Camera reported that 63-year-old Sanford Rothman told investigators he had no clear recollection of the incident early Tuesday morning. No one else was in Rothman's home at the time.

Boulder police Sgt. Paul Reichenback said that Rothman keeps a 9 mm handgun near his bed and takes presciption medication for pain. Police said no alcohol or illegal drugs played a role in the incident.

Rothman was treated at a hospital and released.

A woman accidently shot over the weekend died after a family dog caused a loaded shotgun to go off.
Salmon Police and the Lemhi County Sheriffs Office responded Saturday afternoon to a home on Idaho Avenue in Salmon to the report of an accidental shooting.
When officers arrived - they found 39-year old Carol Ann Coles had been shot by a shotgun. Officers soon learned a loaded shotgun had been placed on the bed, when the family dog jumped onto the bed causing that shotgun to discharge.

5. Some prescription meds can cause sleepwalking.
However, it's also possible that this guy was fiddling with his gun, had a negligent discharge, and thought that this story made him sound less stupid.
