New lawmaker files guns on campus bill
AUSTIN (KXAN) - A newly elected Texas state lawmaker is paving the way for the upcoming legislative session’s debate over guns on campus. Rep.-elect David Simpson , R-Longview, filed House Bill 86 this week, which would allow college students who have a concealed carry license to bring their guns to school.
Simpson said he wants to file a substitute to his bill to allow private universities and colleges to opt out of the campus-carry law. Otherwise, any university or college in Texas could not stop “license holders from carrying handguns on the campus.”
However, students would not be able to store handguns in their dorm rooms. Schools would not be held liable for any damages caused by the guns. If it passes, the law would go into effect Sept. 1, 2011.

4. Come on already. You're just eating more of the same poison.
Guns and ammo are NOT the way to go.

8. Totally Agree.
History has shown that banning firearms from schools and colleges works! Bad people would never carry a firearm on campus.

Oh wait,,,

11. How about a can of starting fluid and a Bic Lighter ?
Would that be OK ?

Should be mega points granted for countering a gun with a wall of flaming ether , if it worked .

12. Poison is often useful in the hands of trained persons.
Poison is often useful in the hands of trained persons. We use it to increase crop yields and keep our homes free from pests.

CCW permit holders have been shown to be extremely conscious of the law. The rate of revocation for CCW permits, for the states that publish the information, is less than 2%.

If firearms are a poison, CCW permit holders are about the most qualified people to handle it.

14. "The rate of revocation for CCW permits, for the states

that publish the information, is less than 2%."

And let's not forget that the rate of revocation for criminal use of a firearm is much smaller still.

Most revocations are the result of criminal behaviors not involving a firearm.
