Sorry it's a Fox News segment - I found the link via the front page of Reddit (http://www.reddit.com)

"If we live in a country like the us where we are more free than anywhere else we are subject to things like this happening and I think that's the price we have to pay."

"oh well, I lost my daughter, that's the price to pay for living in Freedom"????????????????????
Hey buddy, how do you know that we are more 'free' than anyone else? Have you ever been out of AZ? With a statement like that, I doubt it. Who is this asshole, what a tool.

on edit ---"..a random act, could happen anywhere to anyone"
This was NO random act

4. Did you watch this man's interview?
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 08:07 PM by RamboLiberal
It is clear he dearly loved his daughter.

Or are you like the DU'er in an earlier thread that called him the F'ing father of the year.

Does he have to become an anti-gun lobbyist to satisfy some here that he is truly grieving?

I say good for him that he realizes cutting in to our freedoms is not the answer.

And even if he had gone on an anti-gun rant I would not have criticized him. I could truly see his grief in these interviews.

5. Or, just maybe, he's grief-stricken and having problems expressing himself....
to your so tolerant standards.

Or, someone could be being a douche-y fuck-stick.

7. What's sick is your punking this family...
You don't have the juice to say that to them in person, so you hide behind your keyboard.

8. I think he's right.
"oh well, I lost my daughter, that's the price to pay for living in Freedom"????????????????????
Hey buddy, how do you know that we are more 'free' than anyone else? Have you ever been out of AZ? With a statement like that, I doubt it. Who is this asshole, what a tool.

At least in terms of firearm ownership, we are one of the most free nations on Earth. And what this man said, a man who is in a position to speak from personal experience, that the cost of having these freedoms is that sometimes bad things happen, and that is the price we must pay.

I have said the same thing myself many times. We live in a society with 40-80 million firearm owners, where there are over 200 million firearms in circulation. Sometimes people will abuse that right, and every year something just under 2% of firearm owners do just that. But given the alternative of taking those rights away from the other 98%, that is just the price we have to pay for the freedom of being armed.

Now you can disagree all you want, but it's hard to argue with a man who has personally paid that price with his own child and accepts it as he said he did.

Who is this asshole, what a tool.

He sounds to me like a loving father, probably a fellow Democrat, who was taking his politically-active daughter to be part of a Democratic Congresswoman's town hall meeting to learn more about the American political process. He's a man who has paid in blood, and as such his opinion carries more weight than yours or mine.

11. Do you feel the same about the 9/11 widows?
Resisting the impulse toward knee-jerk extremism and an irrational desire for retribution or feel-good "actions" is nothing to be scoffed at. This guy seems to recognize the fact that there is no such thing as making the world completely safe, and that sometimes innocent people will be hurt.

12. You know, I really feel sorry for you. What a cramped and bitter soul you must have.
A clearly grieving father takes time out to talk about his dead daughter and his philosophy and you kick him because you

don't like his politics?

I certainly hope you take some time to reflect on what you've said, else when it's your turn to

join the choir invisible someone just might be calling you an asshole and a tool when (and if) your name gets mentioned...
