Two questions that have been studiously avoided so far:
1. Can the Democratic Party dispense entirely with the votes (and dollars) of gun owners?

and (for those of you who want new gun control laws):

2. How many gun owners do you believe you'll need to get on board with what you might propose in order to see it passed?

All? Most? Some? None?

Tell me what you think...

1. If Democrats suceed in sharply restricting guns and accessories...
...but in doing so put conservatives in power for another decade, will the lives saved by the new restrictions be greater or lesser than the lives lost in inferior medical care, increased poverty, and cuts in critical social services? What if you add another foreign war in?

3. If an identical result could be achieved by legalizing pot...
...why shouldn't the Dems do that instead?

5. I think they should, but I'd like to hear from the True Believers.
Remember, they come in several varieties, and they're not all motivated by the same thing:

*The culture warriors- Prohibitionists-i.e. the ones who hate guns, hate gun owners and believe they're cleansing society.

They'll never compromise.

*The faux culture warriors- the ones making a living from it, like the management of the Brady Campaign and Josh Sugarman.

They lead the first kind around by the nose.

*The "nice" ones- the ones who really think that crime can be prevented by banning inanimate objects. Also led around by the

FCW types, and relentlessly propagandized by the hardcore culture warriors.

7. There are already 90 guns for every 100 people in the country.
Think they will have a turn them into a plowshare day? Trade your guns for garden tools?

I wish!
