Boy shot after Apple store dispute dies
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 15-year-old boy who was shot in the head following a dispute inside an Apple store has died, and a new charge is possible for an older brother accused in the shooting, a prosecutor said Thursday.

Andrake Kelley died Wednesday, police homicide detectives said in a news release. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head in the shooting, which rattled shoppers Saturday night at Easton Town Center, a mall with upscale stores 8 miles northeast of downtown Columbus, police said.

The boy's older brother, Andrew Kelley, 16, was charged Monday with a delinquency count of felonious assault in the shooting. Franklin County Assistant Prosecutor Dennis Hogan said he planned to meet soon with detectives about possibly amending the charge in light of Andrake Kelley's death. Hogan declined to say what new charge could be filed.

The shooting, in an outdoor area of the mall, followed an altercation inside the Apple store, police have said. Detective Steve Glasure told The Columbus Dispatch that words were exchanged between two groups of youths and that Andrew Kelley fired shots into the air. Police would not say if they believed he intended to shoot his brother, the newspaper reported.

14. My bad, I couldn't keep up with your spam.
Funny though, in the 80s when I went to school, it wasn't unusual to see hunting rifles in racks at school.

20. Par for the course. That's what gun controllers have been reduced to.
Factose intolerance is alive, well, and in a domestic partnership with Prohibitionists.

Don't make shit up here and expect to get away with it.

Edit: O.K. I owe at least a partial apology on this one, I read the referenced material wrong. However, no-one in there was suggesting letting them keep hand-guns in their car, or carry while on-campus. This would simply let students of legal age to do so, be prepared to go hunting before/after school. What's the problem here? Been done for years in many places and it hasn't been a significant problem by any stretch of hand-wringing fevered imagination.

I'll let my O.P. stand as-is to remind myself to read completely.

11. Wrong!
Nothing law abiding about a minor buying or carrying a handgun. Minimum age in this country for purchase is 21.

24. "Law-abiding" gun owners?
A 15 year old killed by a 16 year old in an Apple store?

http://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/files/Publications/Publications-for-Law-Enforcement/Concealed-Carry-Publications/2009-Concealed-Carry-Laws-Booklet

From the Ohio 2009 Concealed Carry Laws Manual

Residency

You must be a legal resident of the United States and an Ohio resident for 45 days before you apply for your license. You must be a resident of the county (or adjoining county) where you apply for at least 30 days. You must also be at least 21 years of age and not a fugitive from justice.

Fascinating. It would seem the 16 year was already in violation of a number of state and federal laws, before he killed his brother.

17. Discussion of gun-related public policy issues ...
... or the use of firearms for self-defense belong in the guns forum.

Skinners rules, in addition to his rules for civility here.

Which is this?

A criminal with an illegal gun certainly doesn't sound like a self defense issue, or are you thinking (using the term very loosely) that this is somehow a way to trigger a 2nd amendment public policy discussion?

18. Groups of youths?
"The shooting, in an outdoor area of the mall, followed an altercation inside the Apple store, police have said. Detective Steve Glasure told The Columbus Dispatch that words were exchanged between two groups of youths and that Andrew Kelley fired shots into the air."

Hmm... I've been to Easton quite a few times and can give a pretty good guess on which groups they were. I've seen the same kids hanging around looking for something to do on numerous visits. You can spot the groups easily enough by the color of clothes they wear. I wonder where the sixteen year old got the gun? I wonder why he was packing it in clear violation of Ohio law? Lots of kids hang out at Easton, some of them aren't exactly pillars of the community.

"The boys' father, Andre Kelley, told WBNS-TV in Columbus that his 16-year-old son told him that he fired into the air in an attempt to get the tension from the dispute away from the two.

"And when that happened, somebody supposedly hit his arm — and when they hit his arm, his brother, he thinks, got caught in that crossfire," the father said.

He said neither he nor the boys' mother knew their son had a gun when they went to the mall.

"He's paying the greatest sacrifice," the father said. "He's already lost his own brother. He's not a murderer. This is a situation — it's an accident."

Sounds like more than a simple disagreement to me.
