Gun bill worries campus cops (FL)
http://www.pnj.com/article/20110222/NEWS01/110222014/1006/news01/Gun-bill-worries-campus-cops-

<snip>

“We don’t think allowing more guns on campus will make it safer,” said UWF Police Chief John Warren, who oversees a 21-officer force. “We are an education facility, and we should be concentrating on education.”

Warren and other campus police chiefs around the state oppose the bill. They say heightened safety procedures and teaching students what do in case a gunman gets on campus is the best approach.

Josh Finley, University of West Florida’s Student Government Association president, said gun-toting students, visitors and faculty would cause alarm and create a distraction on campus.

“Students are going to think, ‘Is this person about to pull a gun on me?’” Finley said.

masturbation.

Your opinion is useless. If you really cared about this issue you would make some effort to convince others to share your opinion. Anything less is just juvenile spam.

9. Of course it's news.
The OP should be able to discuss it. S/he clearly cannot. That makes it spam.

I've asked that question on this poster every time he has posted on this issue (many times) and have yet to get an answer.

12. not surprising
cops, like all workers in all sectors, want job "security" (as in not to ose their job). They will always try to drum up support for why they are important and why they should recieve more money and more manpower. This is just another oppurtnity.

Have you ever heard a police organization supporting legalization of marijuana? reduction to an 18 yr old drinking age? no- they always cry chicken little when these things comes up- why?- it takes precious funding away from them.

I take police opinions on public policy matters with a grain of salt. Its like asking the NSA what their feelings on the patriot act are

14. That prediction and hand wringing is from the same people who claimed...
...blood will run in the streets when Texas became shall-issue. The sky didn't fall then and it won't now.

16. AND FROM THE SAME DAMN ARTICLE
"Justin Warlick, a senior majoring in economics at West Texas A&M University, said he doubts any serious shooting will break out on his campus any time soon. Licensed concealed handgun holders are responsible, he said.

"It's probably not a bad idea. Overall, I don't think there will be any problems with it," Warlick said. "I've come to the conclusion that people who have a permit don't do anything bad."

And that is a sound conclusion. The data is quite clear. People with concealed carry permits are many many times less likely to be involved in any kind of crime, let alone firearm-related crime.

23. But not all, so this proves nothing.
There are some students, and some faculty and the majority campus police that have problems with CCW on campus. But not all of them.

The NRA was not mentioned once in the article, so your statement is a fabrication.
