Bloomberg's group over 55x more likely to be convicted of crime than TX CHL holders.

NYC Mayor Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) consists of 578 current mayors pushing for various gun control measures.

Here are eight current or former members:
Shiela Dixon, Baltimore, MD
Gary Becker, Racine, WI
Kwame Kilpatrick, Detroit, MI
David Delle Donna, Guttenberg, NJ
Samuel Rivera, Passaic, NJ
Will Wynn, Austin, TX
Larry Langford, Birmingham, AL
Jeremiah Healy, Jersey City, NJ

What's so special about these eight? Well, they've been convicted of crimes- fraud and perjury, sexually assaulting a child, extortion, bribery, and tax evasion to name some.

So, what's the rate for conviction in Bloomberg's group? 1384 per 100,000.

What's the rate for conviction for Texas CHL holders? 25 per 100,000 (2009*).

Bloomberg's group is 55x more likely to be convicted of a crime than TX CHL holders.

3. True
But it does reflect on their moral authority to prescribe solutions to Americans in general, and especially to prescribe the boundaries of the rights of Americans with pristine criminal records.

And while being a convicted child molester, for instance, does not mean that you are objectively wrong in a particular stance you take, it does tend to make it harder for me to take seriously your concern "for the children." I guess I'll just come out and admit it--I'm prejudiced against felons, especially felons who are addressed as "your honor". And child molesters who want to limit the rights of Americans with pristine records--"for the children", of course--are at the bottom of the heap.

Compared to Texas concealed carry holders?

9. I have no clue. Many, if not most, of them have armed protection at taxpayer expense,
and so are not comparable to most ccw holders.

Of course if you're a convicted felon--never mind a child molester--you're already less than morally authoritative, with or without a gun crime on your rap sheet.

18. Actually...
he can...

Mayor Will Wynn apologized after he physically ejected a man who had crashed a party at Wynn's downtown condo building on March 17, 2006.<6> The man claimed that after being told to leave by Wynn, the mayor followed him outside and proceeded to choke him.<7> On March 5, 2008, Travis County prosecutors charged Mayor Wynn with a Class C misdemeanor, for assault for the Luke Johnson incident.<8> On November 11, 2007, Mayor Wynn was also involved in an incident where he yelled at a big rig truck that was blocking morning rush hour traffic on downtown Austin's 5th Street. The Mayor apologized and said he "spewed a fog of profanity".<9>

Texas Penal Code § 12.03. CLASSIFICATION OF MISDEMEANORS. (a) Misdemeanors are classified according to the relative seriousness of the offense into three categories:
(1) Class A misdemeanors;
(2) Class B misdemeanors;
(3) Class C misdemeanors.
(b) An offense designated a misdemeanor in this code without specification as to punishment or category is a Class C misdemeanor.
(c) Conviction of a Class C misdemeanor does not impose any legal disability or disadvantage.

As much as I disagree with the guys anti-firearms position, the nature of the offense shouldn't prohibit him (or anyone else), from obtaining a CCW permit.

Unless he's one of those "do as I say, not as I do" type of anti's (and there are plenty of them), he might not have (or want) a CCW anyways.

At least Texas has the clarity of thought and common sense to over look minor crap like that; whereas in more restrictive states (like MA, for example), Wynn's "crime" would be grounds for denying even simple possession or ownership of firearms or ammunition.

7. Add one more!
Mayor Gordon Jenkins, of Monticello NY, has been charged with possessing counterfeit-trademarked goods, fraudulent sales tax returns, and possession of pot.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=118&topic_id=340505&mesg_id=386232

His crime while certainly heinous enough is a little short of murderous Million Mom Marchers.

After helping to organize the Million Mom March, and even speaking at the event, Barbara Graham was convicted of shooting an innocent man. Now he is paralyzed for life. When police searched her home, they found three handguns and a Tec-9 "assault weapon." She received a life sentence on nine charges, including illegal possession of a firearm (guns are, for all intents and purposes, illegal to own in D.C.).

Annette Stevens president of Springfield, Illinois chapter of the Million Mom March was arrested for possession of an illegal gun that had its serial number ground off, and drugs. Copped a guilty plea on the drug charges in exchange for having the gun charge dropped and avoiding trial.

In case you missed it, HECTOR MARROQUIN, the founder of a gang intervention program called NO GUNS, was arrested last week for being in possession of a firearm. As a convicted felon, he isn't allowed to have a gun. And even if he was allowed to own a gun, as head of an organization that calls itself NO GUNS, it would have looked hypocritical anyway.

Hector Marroquin Sr., 49, of Downey was taken into custody when police raided his home looking for his son, Hector Marroquin Jr., a reputed gang member nicknamed "Little Weasel," Hawthorne police Lt. Tom Jester said.

Marroquin Jr., 31, was wanted as a suspect in a home-invasion robbery that terrorized a Hawthorne woman and her infant in December, Jester said.

and my all time favorite, Carl Rowen, the Washington Post columnist who said, "Anyone found in possession of a handgun except a legitimate officer of the law goes to jail- period!" Who threw a hissy fit claiming discrimination when he was arrested for shooting, with an illegally possessed and unregistered handgun, a kid skinny dipping in his Washington DC swimming pool. What kind of threat did a naked kid pose?

10. Looks like CHL holders have a high crime rate, considering you supposedly can't get a CHL if a felon
Edited on Wed Mar-02-11 03:59 PM by Hoyt
And, we were told they were all pure.

Looks like the laws aren't working. Need to tighten them up and make sure those felons can't walk around with guns in public.

11. RIF - reading is fundamental..
Edited on Wed Mar-02-11 04:13 PM by X_Digger
No, they aren't getting permits after committing a felony.

They're convicted of any crime, misdemeanor on up, after getting a permit-- at a rate that is 15.66 less frequent than the general public.

For 2009, the non-CHL rate in Texas was 393 per 100,000, and for CHL holders it was 25 per 100,000.

The rate for MAIG members? 1,384 per 100,000-- 55x that of CHL holders, and 3.5x more than the Texas general public.

And, we were told they were all pure.

Please find someone saying that, somewhere, sometime.

Otherwise? More of this..

12. Looks like CHL holders were certified "clean" at some point, then gun toting made them criminals.
Edited on Wed Mar-02-11 04:21 PM by Hoyt
If I take a group that is supposed to be certified as "non-felons" at a point in time, and then they commit a serious crime, I'd say that is significant.

Now the general population, includes murderers, those who assault folks, robbers, thieves, etc. Therefore, their crime rate would be significantly higher -- by definition.

In the case gunners cite, looks like the CHL may have made them criminals.

Keep em at home -- if you dare.

16. wow, you are shown a chart comparing normal citizens compared to
CHL holders, and you find out that CHL holders are 55 times less likely to be convicted of a crime than a member of MAIG and you think they have a high conviction rate.

Faith based reasoning allows you to dismiss fact and data for emotion and ignorance.

20. Considering the new threads claiming criminals are getting CHL
It's important to note that a mayor is many times more likely to commit a crime than a CHL holder given that mayor is a member of MAIG.

21. Adding one more conviction..
Gordon Jenkins, Monticello, NY

http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110613/MEDIA0202/110619925/-1/media02

That brings the rate for MAIG up to 1557 per 100,000.

Which means that MAIG is 62 times more likely than Texas CHL holders to be convicted of a crime.
