confused about the CCW on campus in Texas issue? Here is a well balanced view of how students feel
http://www.campusreform.org/blog/concealed-carry-on-campus-in-texas

•The SGA at Texas A&M-Galveston became the first to endorse concealed carry on campus.
•The SGA at Texas State University became the second to voice approval for concealed carry on campus back in November of 2010.
•The SGA at Texas Tech conducted a poll that showed students on that campus favored concealed carry by 72% to 28%.
•A referendum in favor of concealed carry failed at Texas A&M-College Station by 57% to 43%.
•A bill in favor of concealed carry in the Baylor University Student Senate narrowly failed to pass by one vote.
•The Student Congress at the University of Texas at Arlington voted 36-6 against concealed carry on campus.

----------------------

What we see here is conflicting data. Students at Texas Tech and A&M aren't really that different politically; however, the voting results are very different. I'm not taking either one of these as the absolute truth, but allowing the opposite side to be seen is important, I'm talking about the evidence that there is a lot of support for CCW on campus among students in Texas.

About as "well balanced" as Fox News.

Nice cherrypicking.

8. you failed to point out the bias in the article in question. I'll search for others but finding
politically neutral material on the internet isn't easy.

12. Do you think the list of facts is false? That the student organizations mentioned
did not actually vote/act in the way described? The OP didn't endorse or even bring over any comments or discussion from the website in question, so what exactly are you objecting to? As long as the data points are reliable (and I see no reason to suspect they aren't), why does it matter where they were extracted from? :shrug:

13. If I'm a teacher, I'm not terribly exited with the prospect of teaching
to a classroom full of gun toting students. It might even change the way I approach my subject matter. Well, we'll see how this great social experiment plays out.

15. Most concealed carry holders..
don't bother to pack a firearm every day. That's a huge commitment to gear and training and most folks just don't see the necessity. What it represents to them is the option of going armed if they feel it is in their best interest. Of all the CCW holders I know personally, only one other than myself carries daily.

18. To carry in a classroom
assuming these laws pass, a student would need to be 21+, have no criminal background, take a day long course and prove their profeciency, subject their fingerprints/address/and other personal information to ta federal database, pay the class registration fee as well as the processing fee (several hundred dollars), own a gun, want to carry, and choose to do so on that day.

In other words your class isn't going to be "full" of gun toting students.

Any more than having legalized private planes means that all of a sudden everyone is a pilot.

Maybe you'll have one in your classroom, if that.

19. Balanced? Fuck no - Campusreform.org is an asshole right wing organization
from the website

<snip>

CampusReform.org is designed to provide conservative activists with the resources, networking capabilities, and skills they need to revolutionize the struggle against leftist bias and abuse on college campuses.

Created to give conservatives powerful new weapons in their fight for the hearts and minds of the next generation of citizens, politicians, and members of the media, CampusReform.org facilitates the establishment of conservative student networks and supports their development as a powerful voice of activism on their campuses. It makes available new opportunities for groups’ interaction with alumni, parents, faculty, and other members of the broader community interested in taking a stand for conservative principles on America’s college campuses.

Connecting up-to-date communications technologies to a principled stand for limited government, the free market, national defense, and traditional values, CampusReform.org makes possible a new generation of student activism to identify, expose, and combat the radical left now.

<end>

What next FoxNews is Fair and Balanced?

They suck

figure in?

Do you think the weekend weather forecast from the Wall Street Journal is less trustworthy than that from the NY Times, when they're both just reporting the NWS-provided outlook? :shrug:

26. I find it interesting that student bodies in similar systems have such
disparate views (although, survey methodology and sample sizes may play a role).

It doesn't matter who compiled the raw information; I think the OP has added some useful content for our discussion...
