Nearly Six Months After Nomination, No Confirmation Hearing Set for ATF’s Andrew Traver
http://www.ticklethewire.com/2011/05/06/six-months-after-nomination-no-confirmation-hearing-set-for-atfs-adrew-traver/

Nearly six months after the White House nominated Andrew Traver to head ATF, there’s no sign of a confirmation hearing.

The Senate Judiciary Committee said there’s nothing scheduled for Traver, who heads the ATF Chicago Office, and explained that the committee has so many confirmation hearings to deal with.

But some observers think there’s more to it. They think ATF is a low priority, plus they think there’s no hurry to rush the confirmation process in the midst of the bubbling controversy over an ATF program known as Operation Fast and Furious, in which gun dealers in Arizona were encouraged to sell to straw purchasers — all with the hopes of tracing the weapons to the Mexican cartels. Some of the guns ended up being used in crimes.

James Cavanaugh, a former ATF official, said Friday that he suspects that the controversy over Operation Fast and Furious will probably delay the confirmation.

even in the face of evidence of corruption, is nauseating at best. What's next...a fundraiser for the DEA?

4. The ends
Always justify the means , and it may be necessary at times to sacrifice the lives of individuals for the good of the whole .
I wonder though , other than mountains of flaming cash , who will be offered up next on the altar of those ideals ?

http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2009/12/atf.html

An employee of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was arrested on charges of disabling the fire alarm system and damaging property in his Metairie hotel room, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report....

...But the staffers and a deputy sheriff also discovered that someone had removed the bedroom door from its hinges and replaced it with a 5-by-4-foot piece of plywood affixed to the frame and the drywall with hinges and screws, the arrest report said. The door had two locks attached from the bedroom side and a circular hole padded with duct tape. The deputy noted in the arrest report that the hole appeared to be used "in some sort of sexual act."

Who knows, you may have a have a lot in common already! Travel all over the country. Don't have to worry about office hours. And the arrest hasn't hurt his career at all.

http://thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/02/robert-farago/atf-glory-hole-agent-still-drawing-pay-pension-benefits/

The increasingly active news sources at cleanupatf.org have something to say about ATF agent Russell Vanderwerf, “who was/is the DIO of the Houston FD, was arrested in December 2009 in New Orleans while there on official ATF business. He was actually taken into custody at the New Orleans FD office. Just google Russell Vanderwerf ATF-you will see all the details of the story (glory holes, craigslist, and random men in and out of his room at the Residence Inn across from the New Orleans FD office. I do know that he is still an employee of ATF. His is listed on all the DIO emails that go out. My sources in Houston say that he is not allowed in the office or be around employees, but works from home. There are others that officially “act” as the DIO while he draws his GS/15 pay in the comfort of his home. Would anyone outside of management be treated this way? No. They would be fired. End of Story.”

The list goes on and on but you write "they are OK in my book"

IMHO the following quote from a wise old man named Ron White says it best:

"You can't fix stupid"

10. Koresh is dead and so is...
Randy Weaver family in Ruby Ridge is dead; Killed by the ATF.

82 dead in Waco including more than 20 children and two pregnant women; Killed by the ATF with the help of the FBI

Border patrol agent Brian Terry and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata; Killed with guns supplied by the ATF

Further, the ATF was completely ineffective in even getting close to stopping the mass murderer, McVeigh. But then he used fertilizer and diesel fuel, NOT a gun.

Like Ron White said...

11. Don't forget that that lie has been debunked dozens of times.
Including by the US government. But keep pushing it--some people will actually believe that somehow cartels capable of smuggling cocaine by the ton from central America have no better source of weapons than driving to Bob's Shooting Supply in Austin and paying 4 times more for a semi-auto rifle than they would pay for a fully automatic weapon shipped from Latin America, Africa, or elsewhere.

13. The ATF SHOULD protect you ... ask the Mexicans that were shot ...
or the families of those who were killed by firearms that the ATF allowed to "walk" into Mexico in a ill considered plan, what they think of the ATF.

One thing for sure is that the ATF needs better leadership.

12. Ah yes, Andrew Traver.
The guy that misrepresented to the media and thereby the American people that the assault weapon issue was about machineguns:

http://thetruthaboutguns.com/2010/11/robert-farago/missing-andrew-traver-tv-interview-surface/

What makes him qualified or trustworthy enough to head the ATF?

Wont someone please tell me?

19. That video is an outstanding example of media bias and intentional lying ...
It was obviously made for viewing in Chicago where few people know anything about firearms. Andrew Traver had to be aware that he was aiding and abetting a falsehood and willing played a role in promoting this propaganda. Because he did so, he doesn't deserve to hold any position in law enforcement. I wouldn't trust him to tell the truth in any criminal case as he has obviously no credibility.

Contrast that video with this video on the difference between semi-auto rifles and assault rifles made by a far more honest police officer.

First the video with Andrew Traver:
http://thetruthaboutguns.com/2010/11/robert-farago/missing-andrew-traver-tv-interview-surface/

Then the far more honest video with Officer Leroy Pyle of the San Jose police department. A man, who in my opinion, would be more qualified to run the ATF than Andrew Traver because of his honestly and knowledge of firearms.

The Truth About Semi-Auto Firearms
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysf8x477c30

Now the incident that led to the death of the 14 year old girl is indeed tragic. The media could have produced a video accurately describing the incident showing a semi-auto assault weapon similar to the one that was used in the crime. That would have been fair and honest and still would have made a good point. The fact that they didn't shows why there is is much distrust of the media in our society and why many people reject the arguments for more gun control by the media and organizations such as the Brady Campaign.

21. First time I've seen that video
It's amazing how deceitful people are and the out right lies that come out of peoples mouths so they can push their agenda. If the people at that level are willing to do it, it's understandable how the people on this forum are willing to lie to push their anti gun agenda.
