WI Gun bills trigger applause, dismay (Did I mention DISMAY?) DU this poll, pretty please.
Edited on Mon May-09-11 07:13 PM by Snoutport
These Wisconsin gun bills are pretty crazy. Maybe we should DU this poll?

A snippet from the article: A newly floated bill that would allow Wisconsin residents to carry concealed weapons without getting permits, background checks or training would essentially let the state catch up with the latest thinking in gun law, according to backers who call the approach "constitutional carry.

Poll and article are here: http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/121478429.html

(mind you JSOnline (Journal Sentinel) leans kinda right...if you haven't noticed)

people really are short sighted, but in time they'll see what happens when people carry weapons around with them everyday, everywhere. Fucking dumb and totally unnecessary, that's what really pisses me off about legislation like this. I truly believe there are forces on the right who want to completely destroy society because they don't like it.... in fact, it scares the shit out of them.

36. I think that's the complete theme, the common thread of the RW agenda is to
completely destroy society because they don't like it... I don't know what kind of a crap hole they want to live in, but it appears they want the US to be in the stone age while the rest of the world gets their SH** together and moves on, and they will move on rapidly.

The way the US is currently performing we will not stand a ghost of a chance of being world leaders in the 21st century.

We will have some form of a fascist oligarchy theocracy probably building and selling arms to other countries.

Somehow I don't picture Howard Dean and Bernie Saunders as the vanguard of some neo-Puritan onslaught...

And, BTW, pretty much every country with an industrial base sells arms to other countries.

15. Lol, I don't think I've ever cited information provided by the NRA.
In fact, most of the time I just rely on the FBI crime statistics, which have never born out the sort of uptick in crime that people like yourself claim occurs in states that allow concealed carry. It was this fact, actually, that started me to research this issue more deeply and eventually led me to move from the anti to the pro side of this argument.

This has nothing to do with gun manufacturers and everything to do with people like yourself confusing the root issues of violence with firearms. People have a right to be able to defend themselves effectively, and ensuring this right is a very important (and progressive) ideal. Want to fight crime? Then devote your efforts to poverty and education, as I think those two issues play a significantly larger role in violent crime.

56. Well, strictly speaking, it's Biblical
Matthew 26:52, albeit it with the technology updated a bit.
51 And lo, one of those with Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, drew his sword, and having struck the servant of the chief priest, he took off his ear.

52 Then saith Jesus to him, `Turn back thy sword to its place; for all who did take the sword, by the sword shall perish;

(Young's Literal Translation, emphasis mine)

Of course, in Luke 22:36, Jesus tells his followers that any of them who doesn't have a sword should sell his cloak and buy one, so it's not as if you can get any consistent advice from the Gospels. Which isn't surprising, given that they're riddled with inconsistencies.

Do you support "constitutional carry?"

A bill that would allow Wisconsin residents to carry concealed weapons without getting permits, background checks or training would let the state catch up with the latest thinking in gun law, according to backers. Others, however, seem stunned at the idea.

Yes - I should be able to carry a concealed gun without a permit or training (64%)
I'm OK with concealed carry, but I think it should only be allowed with a permit and training (22%)
I'm opposed to concealed carry - period (14%)

But in your la la land, ensuring blacks AND whites have access to the means to defend themselves from criminals (again both black and white) is somehow wrong.

The other wishes to forbid people from choosing for themselves.

I think it is appropriate to license this aspect of firearms carry. Especially since in our state, the CPL bypasses the handgun purchase waiting period.

I am fine with unlicensed open carry, however, I see concealed carry as a privelidge.

Colorado has no waiting period. It also has no background check on private sales (IMO) waiting periods are pointless especially if you have more than one gun already.
