Western Wisconsin DA anxious for state to pass conceal carry law

A sane District Attorney speaks......

The Jackson County District Attorney has high hopes lawmakers will pass a concealed carry law.

Last summer, Gerald Fox stopped prosecuting several laws dealing with weapons. He says a pair of Federal Supreme Court rulings and his own interpretation of the Constitution make several state laws illegal.

Since that time, he says there have been no serious issues because of the changes made in his county. Fox says he's looking forward to the day the governor signs a bill into law. "Whatever the end product is, it'll be better than what we have now," says Gerald Fox, Jackson County District Attorney. "Which is out of fear what the irresponsible people will do, we've enacted laws that disarm all the decent law-abiding citizens at their peril."

1. Western Wisconsin is not so scummy that you have to go about armed

I did a bike tour there last year and I didn't have to waste any space carrying something as useless as a firearm.

5. I have no problem with that ...

that is your choice.

I chose to carry, that is my choice.

I never expect to have to use my concealed weapon but I personally would prefer to be prepared for whatever life chooses to throw at me. I have carried concealed for over 15 years and never have had to draw my firearm. That in no way means that I might not need to tomorrow.

6. I have lived in western WI for over 50 years and have never needed a gun and never will.

Certainly there are murders here, but they are rare. It'd silly to prepare yourself for a possibility that is so very remote. This is a safe place to live and people don't live in such fear here that they feel they need to have and carry guns.

Do you have a fire extinguisher in your home? Do you think a house fire is a likely event?

Are you by any chance certified in first aid or CPR? If so, do you think it particularly likely that you'll be using those skills on a regular basis?

9. If having a fire extinguisher raised my odds of having a fire, I'd get rid of it

If my supposed first aid skills injured more people around me than they helped, I'd quit practicing them.

12. These guys beat me to it,

but basically the next questions are:

Could you explain how the presence of a firearm, in and of itself, increases your odds of doing...well, anything at all, really...with it?

Or is it, rather, the decision of the user that controls what the firearm does?

and Do you believe that it is not possible to safely have a gun on one's person or in one's home without something disastrous eventually happening?

And also, as noted by the poster above, are you willing to accept that others may choose differently than you do? (because those of us who do own/carry tend to respect the decision of those who choose not to)
