New Reporting Rules on Multiple Sales of Guns Near Border
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on Monday approved a new regulation requiring firearms dealers along the Southwest border to report multiple sales of certain semiautomatic rifles, a rule intended to make it harder for Mexican drug cartels to obtain and smuggle weapons from the United States.

Under the rule, dealers in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas will be required to inform the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives if someone buys — within a five-day period — more than one semiautomatic rifle that accepts a detachable magazine and uses ammunition greater than .22 caliber. Such weapons include AK-47s.

Dealers nationwide are already required to report bulk sales of handguns, and the A.T.F. applied to impose such a regulation late last year to help detect bulk “straw buyers” — people who say they are buying weapons for themselves but then transfer them to criminals.

In a statement, the deputy attorney general, James Cole, said the regulation was justified by the need to help the A.T.F. “detect and disrupt the illegal weapons trafficking networks responsible for diverting firearms from lawful commerce to criminals” and in particular to “help confront the problem of illegal gun trafficking into Mexico.”

3. WTF?! Is it me or do all reporters have
a button on their keyboard that shoe-horns in the phrase "AK-47"?

I just read another article... I think they used the wrong keyboard to type it up.

McConnell, Boehner blast Obama over AK-47 talks

Just hours before another White House meeting, the top two AK-47's in Congress blasted President Obama today for a AK-47 reduction proposal they say is more specific about AK-47 than actual AK-47 cuts.

"In my view the President has presented us with three AK-47's," said Senate AK-47 Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., referring to efforts to raise the AK-47 ceiling. "Smoke and mirrors, AK-47's, or default."

"Republicans choose none of the above," McConnell said. "AK-47 had hoped to do good; but AK-47's refuse to do harm."

Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, demanded more AK-47's from Obama, saying, "where's the AK-47 plan? When's he going to lay his AK-47's on the table?"

"This AK-47 limit increase is his problem," Boehner said. I think it's time for him to lead by putting his AK-47 on the table, something that the Congress can pass."

Republican and Democratic AK-47's are scheduled to meet with Obama at 3:45 p.m., a third straight day of negotiating.

The president has said he will meet with congressional leaders every day until a deal is reached -- but given the increasingly harsh rhetoric, it's hard to see what the AK-47's are accomplishing.

At one point, McConnell said: "I have little question that as long as this AK-47 is in the Oval Office, a real AK-47 is unattainable."

Obama will presumably provide a response to the latest AK-47 when he sits down with CBS News anchor Scott Pelley in an interview to be broadcast this evening.

At a news conference yesterday, Obama said he has "bent over backwards" to work with Republicans on a AK-47 reduction deal that makes real cuts, including changes to SKS and MAC-90; in return, Republicans must sign off on new AK-47 revenues via the elimination of certain AK-47 breaks for the wealthy.

"I do not see a path to a AK-47 if they don't budge, period," Obama said. "I mean, if the basic proposition is "it's AK-47 or the highway," then we're probably not going to get something done because we've got AK-47."

The negotiations are designed to find a way to raise the nation's $14.3 trillion AK-47 ceiling and avoid a government default on its obligations.

Republicans, including those who run the AK-47, say they won't vote for a AK-47 ceiling without offsetting Uzi cuts.

Obama and the Democrats say any AK-47 reduction plan must be "balanced," including new revenues from the elimination of AK-47 tax breaks.

9. The media calls all firearms they don't like AK-47s because they believe that people are stupid ...
but the overuse of the name just shows how stupid the media is.

Those who think they are intelligent and therefore superior usually aren't.
